Job Description
I. Job Summary | Major goals and objectives.
The Senior Editor will organize and edit Entertainment Weekly”s movies section and movies features, delivering an engaging mix of entertainment news and access. Working closely with the editorial team and the photo and design departments, the staff editor will create ideas for the movies vertical, evaluate ideas from other staffers, assign reporting and writing, manage the movie writing staff (including assigning beats), oversee the design process, edit copy, and contribute writing as needed. The Senior Editor will also continually update the movies editorial calendar (review schedule) and work closely with digital leads to oversee digital Movies content, inclusive of handling day-to-day communication with publicists on exclusives, working with writers on roundups and galleries, brainstorming coverage of news, editing all significant digital movies stories, and coordinating the rollout of all print movies stories online.
The position requires excellent editorial judgement, organizational, managerial, and communications skills, a good eye for photo and design, all in an extremely fast-paced environment. When not working on print and digital movies stories, the staff editor will also contribute feature reporting, writing and editing in entertainment verticals, across print and digital. A passion for pop culture, strong writing and reporting skills, contacts in the entertainment industry and the ability to manage direct reports and work well with various teams are required.

Education:
B.A. or equivalent experience
Experience:
5-7 years in entertainment journalism, writing or editing experience, and 1+ years of managerial experience
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Excellent writing and editing skills
Excellent organizational skills, ability to oversee many, constantly changing elements during a magazine close
A good eye for photos and design, ability to work smoothly with photo and design editors
Strong creativity and a sense of humor
A deep passion for pop culture
Solid contacts in the entertainment industry to help deliver access stories and report on breaking news
Ability to work well in a team amid a very fast-paced environment
