Position Overview

As a part of the R&D group, the Senior Battery Reliability Engineer will be responsible for research and application of methods for the enhancement of the safety and reliability of battery systems.

Responsibility includes reliability analysis and prediction by deploying advanced experimental and statistical methods, identification of failure modes and developing a numerical framework to estimate level of risk or occurrence probability for the modes.

This position requires candidate to be excellent in numerical programming and data analysis to predict reliability of battery and its components under multiple operating conditions.

Key Roles and Responsibilities 

  • Develop experimental and numerical framework to support prediction of warranty estimates or end of life forecasts for Romeo Power battery modules and packs
  • Design and develop reliability tests for product specific needs and specifications.

    Strong experience in accelerated life testing, failure analysis, and PCB & Battery Reliability.

  • Knowledge and experienced with HALT, HASS, RDT, ORT, and other applicable reliability testing methodology.
  • Evaluate Manufacturing process and Supply Chain vendors and assess process capabilities such as KPI, Cpk, Control Limits etc.
  • Manage failure analysis and implement root cause corrective action and preventive action plan.
  • Evaluate failure modes from an experimental and statistical point of view to estimate probability of occurrence or define associated risk levels
  • Estimation of test sample size, experimental range and frequency to gain statistical confidence in the overall experimental results.
  • Create Fault Trees and reliability block diagrams to assess system reliability and to facilitate field failure resolution.
  • Provide reliability design and process guidelines based on experimental and field data Guide and participate in DFMEA, FRACAS, PFMEA product and process activities.
  • Work with the product and design engineering teams on EVT, DVT, DMT, and PVT tests.
  • Develop and write detailed test plans and test reports.

    Make recommendations as needed per design.

  • Provide feedback from the reliability perspective on the product design and long-term reliability of the product. 
  • Effectively communicate, and make presentations as needed to interested groups

Basic Qualifications 

  • Bachelors’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Materials Engineering with 5+ Years of experience in Reliability Engineering or Master’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Materials Engineering with 3+ years of experience in Reliability Engineering.
  • At least 2 years of Experience in preparing reliability plans for Li-Ion Battery Systems
  • Solid understanding of Design for Reliability and Design of Experiments
  • Strong experience in Reliability Analysis and Accelerated Test Methods.
  • Experience with reliability prediction methods and applications.
  • Knowledgeable with key industry test standards such as Mil-Standards, Telcordia
  • Standards, JEDEC 47E, SR332, etc.
  • Working knowledge and experience with key industry reliability analysis tools such as Minitab, and Matlab 
  • Experience and competent with Weibull Analysis, Log-normal, Exponential and Normal distribution analysis methods.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet exacting deadlines.
  • Able to capture data, write test reports, and communicate any test issues.
  • Excellent communication and technical writing skills.
  • Experienced in VIZIO, Power Point, Word Document, and Excel Microsoft Office Products.
