Scientist, Plant Transformation

ABOUT THE ROLE…

We are looking for a dynamic and self-motivated Scientist to join our fast-growing and collaborative Early Product Development team to work on plant transformation and tissue culture.

This is a hands-on lab-based role which requires the ability to concentrate, pay attention to details, work efficiently, troubleshoot and work independently as well as in a team environment.

 The right candidate will be well-organized, flexible, able to deliver high quality results on time, and grow and develop talent.  This position will be located at our West Lafayette, IN site.

AS A TRANSFORMATION SCIENTIST, YOU WILL…

Develop and optimize wheat plant transformation protocols across multiple varieties in a production-scale environment Lead a high-throughput wheat transformation pipeline and be responsible for the delivery of transformed and gene edited plants to the cultivation team by the requested deadlines Supervise, train and instruct lab personnel in specific technical experimental protocols Work with other Scientists and Research Associates to plan and execute experiments, conduct analyses, record data and report results related to one or more projects Interpret data; maintain an accurate, comprehensible, and current laboratory journal Communicate results in written technical reports and oral presentations
You bring…

A doctorate or masters degree in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g.

molecular biology, plant biotechnology, microbiology) Five or more years of experience working in a laboratory environment (can include graduate work) At least 2 years of team leadership experience that includes training, developing and building a high performing team Hands on experience with plant tissue culture Knowledge/experience in plant regeneration In-depth knowledge of plant cell biology and/or physiology Demonstrated track record of tackling complex problems, leading others to obtain novel insights and driving a culture of innovation Working knowledge of standard office software tools (i.e.

Email, word processor, spreadsheet, presentation programs etc.)
– experience with Google Suite is a plus Excellent time management and organizational skills Strong communication skills, both written and oral Curiosity and a desire to continuously learn and have a meaningful impact Creative and strategic thinking, willingness to be bold and take risks A collaborative approach, open to giving and receiving ideas, perspectives, and feedback across multiple site locations
Bonus Qualifications…

Experience in an industrial plant tissue culture group Experience working in a production-scale environment Experience with tissue culture protocols for diverse plant species Familiarity with Benchling and Lab Information Systems (LIMS)
