POSITION SUMMARY

The Scholarships Assistant will work closely with the Scholarships Manager to manage and grow the SoLa College Scholarship Program. We are looking for someone excited about contributing to the foundation of what we are building to become a leading program advancing access to higher education in South LA. There is great potential for you to grow with the program and vice versa.

ABOUT THE FOUNDATION:

The SoLa Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit affiliate of SoLa Impact, works to improve the lives of South LA residents and break the cycle of intergenerational poverty by providing opportunities for education, economic mobility, & community development. SoLa provides the community with skills-based technology programming, as well as scholarships and career development opportunities for underinvested communities to ensure Black and brown Angelenos get increased access to jobs, mentorship, and placement in the most competitive fields of businesses.

About The Scholarship Program

The SoLa College Scholarship Program aims to fundamentally transform access to higher education in South Los Angeles. We are not a traditional scholarship based on GPA or sports ability; this is a community oriented scholarship based on personal drive and commitment to making an impact. The fund has now awarded over $1M to our growing community of 135 SoLa Scholars attending colleges and universities all around the country with one thing connecting them all, their roots in South LA and their desire to see our community grow and thrive.

Requirements

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Scholar Support

  • Curate monthly resource newsletters customized for our scholars community
  • Identify and distribute additional scholarship opportunities for college students and professional development opportunities for recent graduates
  • Provide personalized assistance to scholars, offering guidance on applying for internships/jobs

Event Planning

  • Contribute to the planning and execution of the 2024 SoLa Scholarships ceremony
  • Support the development of inaugural overnight community building retreat
  • Collaborate in organizing summer career development and networking events

General Support

  • Contribute to ongoing recruitment and marketing efforts to enhance program visibility and recruit potential donors.

Requirements

  • Flexible availability to commit an average of 15 hours per week from 3/15/24 to 8/15/24
  • Bachelor’s degree; preference for graduate students in student affairs or related fields
  • Strong interest in working with first-generation college students and commitment to community impact
  • Extensive knowledge and active involvement in student programs, activities, and resources
  • Adaptable to varied responsibilities with a “no task is too small” mindset.
  • Organized, proactive/self-starting attitude, creativity, and attention to detail
