We are a Energy Services Company (ESCO) that delivers energy infrastructure solutions to clients across the United States. We hold master performance contracting agreements with the US Department of Energy, US Army Corps of Engineers, and State of California, among others. Our small and collaborative team has developed more than $300MM of energy upgrades since entering the industry 10 years ago.

We are looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to add to our small but growing energy engineering team. Successful candidates will be experienced in building systems and have the ability to think critically and creatively about all ranges of electrical systems, from distributed and renewable energy systems, to power transformation and distribution, down to building lighting and controls. In this role, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks including providing technical support for new markets and energy concepts (including power purchase agreements), completing whole facility energy audits, creating building energy consumption models, identifying and quantifying energy conservation measures (ECMs), overseeing engineering designs and reviews, and developing & conducting Measurement and Verification for ECMs. This position requires a dynamic individual with strong technical abilities and a proven ability to balance multiple concurrent projects. Job Details

Job Description – Senior Energy Engineer (Electrical)

  • Support technical development of new market opportunities, such as renewable energy
  • Develop electrical concept designs to support an array of energy generation and energy savings initiatives
  • Direct, oversee and review third party engineering designs
  • Provide NEC and building code guidance for projects
  • Support facility audits to identify ECMs
  • Recommend ECMs, and prepare energy analyses of facilities and/or systems
  • Recommend energy-efficient design solutions and technology upgrades that are supported by accurate descriptions, measured and logged energy data, savings calculations, and cost estimates
  • Conduct detailed lighting and control system energy improvement analyses and complete calculations using custom tools, spreadsheets and/or modeling software
  • Support development of Measurement & Verification plans and protocols, commissioning protocols, and post-implementation Operations & Maintenance protocols
  • Coordinate the integration of design engineering, project construction, start-up/turnover, and subsequent Operations & Maintenance procedures for energy projects
  • Assist with project development (e.g., construction planning, price, schedule, environmental, warranties, performance guarantees, risk mitigation plans)
  • Oversee the engineering analyses and technical support work of project subcontractors

Required and Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent discipline (electrical is preferred)
  • Extensive experience with building energy systems (e.g., electrical distribution, lighting, generations, renewable energy, etc.)
  • 5+ years of experience in building related electrical engineering
  • PE certification preferred
  • Experience working with the National Electrical Code and other building codes
  • Advanced degree in engineering preferred
  • Experience implementing energy conservation or performance contracts is preferred
  • Willingness to travel (for site audits and walks) ~20% of time

***Note: We are headquartered in Arlington, VA but relocation will not be required for the right candidate.***

Required Skills:

  • A passion in the areas of energy efficiency, alternative energy, and sustainability
  • Ability to provide technical leadership and project management to guide a team of energy engineers to identify, develop and implement integrated energy efficiency programs
  • Experience and proficient understanding of the National Electrical Code and other building codes
  • Ability to individually develop custom energy improvement calculation tools is a plus
  • Engineering, analytical, and technical writing skills, including spreadsheet analyses
  • Demonstrated ability to perform at a high level on multi-disciplinary teams
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • A general knowledge of the financial, technical, and political aspects driving the energy industries
  • Self-directed personality with a commitment to excellence
