Reference Librarian

This position is on-site and requires covid-19 vaccination.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs legal, business, and competitive intelligence research for attorneys, paralegals and support staff, using a variety of electronic and print resources
  • This can include various types of quick or complex research including case, docket, and filings retrievals, legislative histories, news, public records, and company research
  • Assists with collection development by evaluating new digital & print resources and assessing attorney information needs and usage patterns
  • Supports the Firm’s use of online databases by assisting in training, coordinating training sessions through vendor webinars, and trouble-shooting technical issues
  • Create current awareness alerts & newsletters for ongoing monitoring of clients, legal news, industries, legislation and subject specialties
  • Shares responsibilities for maintaining and updating the Library Intranet pages
  • Stays current with new and developing trends in research, technology and competitive intelligence
  • Participates in projects that increase the value of the firm’s research and information services to the Firm
  • Uses workflow software to track and process research requests
  • Performs other special projects or duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Library Science (MLS/MLIS) preferred
  • Minimum 2 years professional experience in a law firm
  • General knowledge of reference sources in legal and business areas
  • Technological competency with a variety of databases (Lexis, Bloomberg, Hein Online, CCH Cheetah, etc.) and proven ability to manage digital resources
  • Ability to think critically, solve complex problems and use discretion in handling confidential matters
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking skills to facilitate presentations
