What You’ll Do.

Popcornopolis is seeking a Food Scientist to join our fast-growing team.

The ideal candidate is action-oriented and pays attention to executional detail in Research & Development.

The Food Scientist is responsible for formulation, operational implementation, packaging setup.

All to support food safety, provide value to our customer, and present our products in a positive manner while controlling overall costs.

This position must work closely with Suppliers, Strategic Sourcing, Food Safety/Quality Assurance, Production Management, Marketing, and Sales as well as other cross functional team members in Popcornopolis to successfully complete projects related to new products and existing product optimization.

Additionally, identify and implement cost savings opportunities.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Troubleshooting activities and general product development support to operations, FSQA, and procurement teams as needed.

Builds and maintains relationships with internal and external resources to cost effectively implement products into manufacturing.

Leverages best practices and capitalizes on technologies with cross-functional, cross-site business applications.

Identifies processes and ingredients to improve quality of products through color, flavor, texture, nutritional contribution, and convenience in support of strategic initiatives for NPD, quality improvements, and productivity/cost-reduction activities.

Must have strong conceptual, analytical, technical skills and presentation skills.

Maintain open communication and build strong relationships with internal & external teams from suppliers to cross functional teams.

Ability to challenge assumptions with fact-based research and data analysis.

Conduct and/or manage supplier experiments, trials, and analyses to validate and advance technical packaging opportunities.

Provide effective communication and documentation of work including technical plans, experimental reports, financial analysis, and management updates.

Initiates, coordinates, and executes line trials at appropriate supply locations to confirm that quality attributes and performance metrics are achieved.

Minimum education requirement, Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

BS in Food Science, Food Engineering, or Chemical Engineering.

1-4 years relevant experience in Research and Development; or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.

Experience in industrial food processing is required.

Foundational knowledge of food science.

Basic knowledge of packaging materials, package testing equipment, manufacturing equipment and processes.

Clear effective verbal and written communication skills.

Efficient time management, project management, organizational skills, and the ability to work independently.

Possesses good research and development capabilities, including experimental design, familiarity with package development and experience in commercialization.

Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.

Demonstrates respect, approachability and team focus while building strong working relationships in a positive work environment.

Ability to plan, lead and implement projects successfully which may involve internal and external resources.

Ability to manage multiple projects and still meet critical project milestones.

Ability to present conclusions and recommendations to management team.

Must demonstrate the ability to design overall product concept and develop formulation, with appropriate guidance, that meet consumer, brand, customer, and manufacturing objectives.

Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of project management to realize the order, importance, and impact of appropriate project activities with commitment to project scheduling.

Most of the time is spent in an office setting onsite at the production plant.

The plant environment will include wet or humid conditions (non-weather related), heat (non-weather related), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to airborne particles.

Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud when in the production area.
