AFL, a leading fiber optics telecommunications company has openings an Engineering Intern in our Duncan, SC facility.
This position will begin in May 2022, and run throughout the summer The position will provide technical assistance to the Connectivity R&D team to expand its materials library.
The intern will work under the direction of a senior R&D engineer or department manager, and will be responsible for conducting material property testing on plastics used in our products, The Engineering Intern will be support with monthly meetings and mentorship with the co-op/intern coordinator.
Available starting semesters: Summer and Fall 2022 Responsibilities may include: Working with plastic manufacturers to obtain test bars and material performance data Conducting and analyzing material property measurements (tensile strength, elongation, flexural modulus, etc.) to support FEA material library database development Working with Connectivity Engineering and Quality Engineering personnel to plan and conduct chemical and weatherability testing of various materials to confirm compliance to Telecom industry standards Expanding the existing materials library to create a searchable database Sourcing or designing materials test fixture as required to perform the above tasks Requirements: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, Physics or Chemistry.
