R&D Engineer in Sensor Technology

Fluidion US develops latest-generation miniaturized sensors and robotic systems and is emerging as a leader in the water quality sensor industry with a range of innovative rapid microbiology instruments, specialized chemical sensors, and an aquatic water quality drone.
Fluidion US holds high-level expertise in water quality instrumentation, microfluidic sensors, low-power electronics, and wireless telemetry . The company works with a wide panel of private and public utilities and was awarded several government contracts and grants (NSF, USDA, DoE). It is looking to reinforce its team based in downtown Los Angeles, CA, and is currently proposing exciting engineering, scientific, and sales positions.
Job summary:
The R&D engineer position involves designing, testing, benchmarking, and troubleshooting novel water quality instrumentation and sensors. It requires a dynamic and resourceful individual with a set of interests and skills that spans multiple disciplines.
Some of the job responsibilities (non-exhaustive):
– Assist in the design, fabrication , testing, and installation of new instruments (both in laboratory and field settings)
– Perform experimental research using specialized equipment and instruments, initially under supervision from scientific staff and later unattended
– Collect and analyze data using appropriate software and scripts (commercial and custom-made)
– Design and test automatic data collection and treatment algorithms (Python, C, C++)
– Collaborate with Fluidion team and clients , in the USA and in Europe
– Prepare scientific communications and reports on testing data and analyses
– Perform bibliographic research and state-of-the-art discovery
– Write technical communications (reports, documentation, scientific articles, client notes)
– Run simulations and perform design optimization using FEM, CFD, and/or electrical simulation software
– Practice safe work habits, including complying with all safety, health, and environmental rules and regulations
Requirements:
The successful candidate should be a self-starter, with a technical knowledge base in a scientific field (Chemistry, Physics, Electronics or related fields) and prior experience in instrumentation. Experience with micromachining , cleanroom work, or working with micro-optical or micro-fluidic components is welcome. The work location will be downtown Los Angeles (Arts District).
Qualifications:
– Highly motivated individual with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a science or engineering field (chemistry, physics, applied physics, electrical or chemical engineering preferred).
– Experience working in a laboratory
– High degree of autonomy and proactive attitude
– Computer skills: experience with major CAD software, Microsoft Office
– Analytical and numerical skills; Programming skills desirable (Python, C, C++, Matlab)
– Ability to communicate results and present technical information orally and in writing
– Ability to integrate in a team and collaborate with local as well as remote team members
– Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
