Overview

Founded in 1887, California Hospital Medical Center is a 318-bed, acute care, not-for-profit hospital located in downtown Los Angeles. The hospital offers a full complement of services including a Level II trauma center, the Los Angeles Center for Women’s Health, obstetrics and pediatric services, and comprehensive cardiac and surgical services.  California Hospital is home to Hope Street Margolis Family Center, a community health, education, and resource center helping thousands of families and children.

 

Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care and oversight to patients undergoing robotic surgeries in accordance with individual needs, physician orders, Hospital policy and standards of nursing practice. Designs, develops and generates reports relating to performance improvement activities across the surgical services units. Maintains knowledge base regarding governing agency regulations as they relate to Surgical Services.

  • Adheres to established Hospital/departmental policies and procedures, objectives, Quality Assessment and Improvement Program, legal, safety, environmental, infection control standards, Nurse Practices Act and Patient’s Bill of Rights.
  • Provides in-service and validates competency for robotic trouble shooting and urgent/emergent vendor communications as needed to ensure functionality of robotic and supportive equipment.
  • Provides leadership by establishing priorities and coordinating nursing care. Demonstrates clinical resource characteristics for ensuring competency of the robotic surgical team.
  • Provides clinical oversight for pre-, intra-, & post-operative management of the robotic surgical patient.
  • Manages the robotic surgery schedule and other advanced technology procedures as appropriate to support procedural requirements.
  • Orders and maintains inventory of instruments, accessories and supplies related to robotic and advanced technology surgeries.
  • Responsible for the training and orientation program for OR staff on intraoperative management of the Da Vinci Surgical System and provides in-services as needed.
  • Ensures the proper preparation and positioning of patients for robotic procedures.
  • Coordinates plan of care with other members of the robotic and Perioperative interdisciplinary health care team to achieve desired goals and outcomes.
  • Responsible for initial set up and troubleshooting of robotic and advanced technology systems for procedures.
  • Collaborates with Sterile Processing regarding cleaning and sterilization of instruments.
  • Collaborates with Materials Management for procurement and maintenance of robotic supplies and equipment.
  • Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of performance improvement projects and surgical services dashboard with data collection methodologies, analysis and interpretation of data and the visual/written presentation of the projects.
  • Serves as a resource for and provides education to staff on performance improvement activities.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the approaches to and methods of Process Improvement.
  • Utilizes HRO tools in daily practice and serves as a safety coach to staff.
  • Audits for compliance with regulatory agencies and license requirements.
  • Disseminates current NPSG information and facility policies and ensures NPSG audits are completed timely for surgical services.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications

Minimum

  • Must be Graduate of Accredited RN school of Nursing

  • Bachelor’s degree / BSN required

  • At least three years current acute care registered nursing experience in Surgery required

  • Minimum 1 year of consistent and current robotic surgery experience required with clinical resource functionality for: Urology, Gynecology, Oncology, and General Surgery experience

  • CA RN License

  • CPR/BLS

  • FIRESAFETY

Preferred

  • Current certification in specialty area is preferred
