Boeing Defense, Space and Security is seeking Experienced and/or Lead Propulsion Engineers to support multiple satellite product lines across several Boeing sites.  These positions will sit in El Segundo, CA.

We are looking for candidates that have industry experience in some of the below key roles:

  • System Engineers – Candidates who can demonstrate that they’ve supported defining propulsion system requirements, performed propulsion systems analysis, defined requirements for propellant loading, and supported mission activities.
  • Electric Propulsion – Candidates who have helped design, manufacture, or test electric propulsion subsystems and/or candidates who have defined requirements and qualified electric propulsion subsystems.  Candidates who can demonstrate their ability to understand the key failure mechanisms within the thrusters, power supplies, flow controllers and other hardware associated with varying electric propulsion subsystems.
  • Liquid Propulsion – Candidates who have helped design, manufacture, or test liquid propulsion subsystems and/or candidates who have defined requirements and qualified liquid propulsion subsystems.  Candidates who can demonstrate their ability to perform flow analyses for liquid propulsion systems and in-depth knowledge of subsystem hardware.
  • Mission/Operations – Candidates who have helped support satellite or space vehicle flight operations. Candidates who have helped develop and test flight operations procedures and products. Candidates who have supported on-orbit anomaly root cause and corrective actions (RCCAs).

Position Responsibilities:

  • Defines requirements for propulsion systems, auxiliary power systems and vehicle fuel and tank systems.
  • Defines, coordinates and controls the functional and physical interfaces between the propulsion system and the vehicle.
  • Develops specifications and architectural and configuration concepts for associated vehicle systems to meet customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Configures and designs propulsion subsystems and components to meet all vehicle design and performance criteria.
  • Uses various testing, analysis, modeling and simulation tools to estimate or calculate system performance.
  • Defines and performs certification tests for propulsion subsystems and components.
  • Supports fielded systems by developing responses to customer queries and providing technical recommendations.
  • Develops concepts for future propulsion systems to meet anticipated requirements.
  • Supports mission operations for propulsion subsystems.
  • Works under general direction.

This position is expected to be onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

Work Authorization:

This position requires a current Tier 5 (T5), formerly known as a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) (U.S. Citizenship required) or requires candidate agreed to enter a Continuous Evaluation program.

This position requires an active U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active).

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • 3 or more years’ experience in propulsion systems

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 5 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experienced with Space-based propulsion and/or electric propulsion
  • Experience in new technology or product/capability development

Typical Education/Experience:

Experienced (Level 3)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Lead (Level 4)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years’ related work experience, Master+7 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility.

Please note that the salary information shown below is a general guideline only.  Salaries are based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. 

Summary pay range for experienced level: 100,300 – 135,700

Summary pay range for lead level: 121,550 – 164,450
