Join Dr. Jesse Meyer as a Project Scientist in the Department of Computational Biomedicine!
The Meyer Lab at Cedars Sinai uses proteomics, metabolomics, and data science to understand basic biology of metabolism and disease. We currently have two NIH funded projects (R35 and R21). We have a newly renovated lab space at the Pacific Design Center that includes extensive equipment for cell culture and mass spectrometry. To learn more, please visit Meyer Research Lab | Cedars-Sinai.
We are seeking one wet lab-focused project scientist to work on an NIA funded project using induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) derived neurons to model Alzheimer’s disease for drug discovery. The ideal candidate will have experience culturing induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), differentiating them into iPSC-derived glutamatergic neurons, and characterizing them with cell-based assays and cellular imaging such as fluorescence microscopy. The ideal candidate may also have experience or interests with one or more of the following: mass spectrometry based multi-omics sample preparation, data collection, and interpretation (proteomics and metabolomics); they may also be skilled in machine learning, stem cell (iPSC) brain organoids, and neuron models of Alzheimer’s disease in vitro. We are open to hiring a neuroscientist with interest in learning proteomics and metabolomics, or an analytical chemist with experience in proteomics or metabolomics who wants to learn neuroscience. Competitive candidates will have experience publishing as a postdoctoral fellow in at least one first author paper in the mentioned disciplines.
Are you ready to be a part of breakthrough research?
The Project Scientist works independently and in cooperation with the Principal Investigator to make significant and creative contributions to a research or creative project in any academic discipline. The Project Scientist may be an ongoing member of a research team or may be employed for a limited period of time to contribute high-level skills to a specific research or creative program. Project Scientists are not required to carry out independent research or to develop an independent research reputation and do not have teaching responsibilities. The candidate is expected to lead their own research projects working closely with the PI, and to help with grant applications with collaborators and within our own lab. The project scientist will also be responsible for managing collaborative projects with standard or custom experimental pipelines. The project scientist will work with other lab members to collect data to ensure that experiments align with computational goals.
Ordinarily, the Project Scientist title will carry out research or creative programs as well as administration of day-to-day lab operations with supervision by a member of the Professorial Series.
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- May assist in the preparation of grant proposals, submissions, publications, and presentations but is not responsible for generating grant funds.
- May serve as PI for certain grants as approved by supervising member of the Professorial Series.
- May participate in publications and presentations as author or co-author.
- May develop, adapt and implement new research techniques and protocols.
- Leads collaborative teams performing computational and bioinformatic analysis of omics data and/or electronic health records data.
- May direct the work of graduate students, technicians, and postdoctoral fellows while leading projects and collaborative relationships.
- Collaborate with lab members who collect data to ensure that experiments align with computational goals.
- Assists in lab experiments.
- Analyzes, interprets, summarizes, and compiles data.
- May lead or train Staff Research Associates and Research Fellows.
- Will assist in day-to-day laboratory activities.
- Appointees on an academic trajectory will be expected to commit a portion of their time to develop an independent range of research.
Education:
-
Doctorate Degree in Neuroscience, Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field is required. Demonstrated significant, original, and creative contributions to a research or creative program or project.
Experience and Skills:
- Knowledge of PI’s area of research specialization.
- Demonstrated technical competency in a variety of research techniques and protocols.
- Knowledge of python, and/or R and relevant packages for machine learning and statistical analysis.
- Knowledge of machine learning tools and best practices.
