DLA Piper LLP (US), a global law firm, seeks a Full time Professional Responsibility Counsel in the firm’s Office of General Counsel.

The Professional Responsibility Counsel will advise and assist the firm’s attorneys and staff in connection with professional responsibility matters, primarily the identification and resolution of conflicts of interest.

The Professional Responsibility Counsel reports to the firm’s Assistant General Counsel.

Responsibilities: + Advises firm attorneys and staff regarding professional responsibility and risk mitigation
– primarily conflict of interest issues associated with new matters, negotiation of client engagement terms and outside counsel guidelines, review of lateral attorney/paralegal candidates, and efficacy and integrity of ethical walls; + Identifies, analyzes and resolves or makes recommendations for the resolution of conflicts of interest and other ethical issues related to new firm business across all practice groups; + Conducts legal research related to conflicts of interest and other professional responsibility matters.

+ Works directly with firm attorneys and staff in the U.S.

and in affiliated firms outside the U.S.

to analyze and resolve complex conflicts of interest; + Advises staff members in Conflicts Resolution Group and New Business Intake regarding conflicts of interest and appropriate resolution; + As requested, supports firm’s General Counsel and Assistant General Counsel on allaspects of law firm risk management; + Participates in training firm attorneys and staff on professional responsibility obligations; and + Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements: + Active law license in good standing in state where practicing.

+ Minimum 5 years’ experience in law firm or in-house legal department.

+ Prior experience in conflicts resolution or law firm risk management in a large law firm environment highly preferred.

+ Substantive knowledge of Rules of Professional Conduct and current state of legal ethics issues.

+ Excellent written and verbal skills required to communicate complex legal issues.

+ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required to interact with partners, associates, clients and firm staff on a regular basis.

+ Strong organizational skills and attention to detail required to handle large volumes of work and numerous matters simultaneously.

+ Ability to work effectively and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

+ Ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.

+ Ability to work outside regular business hours when needed and to travel on occasion.
