SITUATION IN ORGANIZATION Position reports directly to the Plant Manager within the Grand Rapids, MI, site.Supervises (leads) Arkema Grand Rapids operations employees.JOB DIMENSIONS The Production Leader is responsible for the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the Grand Rapids Plant in order to achieve our business objectives.

Provides leadership and coaching to plant personnel; operates within budget based upon forecasted plant volume demand; meets customer expectations through continual improvement in product and process quality & helps develop personnel to meet/exceed expectations and prepare for career advancement.

As a training advisor, this individual will also utilize plant resources with working knowledge of the process to train, coach, and enhance the technical capabilities of the teams by sharing experiences, technical skills, and process knowledge.KEY ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Department Management
– 40% Serves as a coach and mentor to the department personnel.Coaches plant personnel to resolve technical Operational issues.

Works closely with team leads to develop leadership skills to enhance overall team performance.

Participates in strategic goal setting for the plant.

Completes the requirements of the Performance Management Process for identified personnel within the department including the plant goal setting process.

Encourages all team members to develop and utilize an employee development plan and to maintain information relative to their career goals.

Ensures implementation and ongoing effectiveness of work processes, Operating Discipline, management systems, enabling technologies and roles.

Creates an environment that fosters team and individual empowerment.

Ensures effective and sustained organizational culture for empowerment.

Counsels on performance as appropriate.

Acts as site leader in the absence of the plant manager.

Act as media contact as required.

Production
– 35% Coordinates resources to meet short and long term production forecasts through participation with the business team, ensuring goals and commitments are safely met and within budget.

Participates in monthly and weekly meetings with Supply Chain and Sales to determine plant production requirements as well as the impact of any changes in the 12-month forecast.

Participates in the site daily production meeting to coordinate production and maintenance activities.

Monitors daily production, shipping activities, product quality, and then directs adjustments to production and shipping plans as appropriate.

Ensures continuous evaluation and implementation of improvements through the tracking of Operational Equipment Efficiency (OEE) metrics.

Manages the site Continuous Improvement Program.

Prepares monthly reports to meet plant and business requirements.

Manage small improvement projects for the production facility.

Health, Safety, and Environmental
– 25% Ensures compliance of regulatory, plant safety, and environmental requirements with special emphasis on Process Safety Management (PSM) compliance within the Production group.

Performs accident / incident investigations for all safety, quality, and environmental incidents.Manages implementation of corrective actions from investigations.

Participates in loss control programs, including BBS, SafeStart, THA, StarMap etc.

Acts as incident commander during plant emergencies if the Plant Manager and HES Specialist are unavailable.

Demonstrates commitment to HES through high visibility and engagement.

Other duties as assigned.

Serves as back-up to Plant Manager.

CONTEXT AND ENVIRONMENT Position will work at the Grand Rapids plant site / is non-remote.

Works with the process technicians, engineer, mechanics, and managers to enhance operating units at the Grand Rapids plant.

Complies with all Regulations, Legal and Internal Requirements of Arkema / CSP.

Complies with the rules of the specific location as well as the rules set by the business unit (BU) and Arkema Inc.

Complies with all standard procedures and work instructions, aka SP, SOP, PWI, TM, to ensure productivity, quality assurance and cost effectiveness.

Identify and communicate potential gains or possible improvements to the management system.

Supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements Participates in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema Inc.

(e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.) Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents REQUIRED EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS/WORK EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering.

Minimum of five years’ experience in a chemical manufacturing environment.

Experience with PSM covered processes required.

Process Safety experience (PHA, LOPA, Safety Instrument Systems) preferred Strong communication skills (written and verbal); ability to work with limited supervision.

Expertise in Microsoft Office and other PC applications; SAP experience desired.

Good knowledge of ISO certifications and mechanical integrity programs.

Lean / Six Sigma experience desired.

Root Cause Investigation experience desired.

Ability to work with others internally and externally with professionalism.

Excellent organizational skills.
