The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) organization is seeking a Senior Lead (Level 5) or Principal (Level 6) Chief Engineer for the Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) Patriot Advanced Capability (PAC-3) program in Huntsville, Alabama.

Boeing is seeking a Production Chief Engineer for the PAC-3 Seeker program.  Boeing produces and sustains seekers for the U.S. Army’s PAC-3 Missile system in Huntsville, Alabama, as a subcontractor to Lockheed Martin. The Ka band millimeter seeker is the product of decades of research and development — providing active guidance data for target acquisition, optimal aim point and terminal guidance to defeat threats. Boeing has produced more than 4,500 PAC-3 Missile seekers since 2000.  Boeing recently completed a 28,000-square-foot expansion of its facilities, as well as a 9,000-square-foot expansion of its Huntsville Electronics Center of Excellence, to increase production in support of growing air and missile defense needs. 

Job Description Summary:

A successful Production Chief Engineer will be responsible for the technical quality of the program and will lead a large multi-disciplinary engineering team. They will work cross functionality across the program to resolve emerging technical issues, and develop strategies to improve production and engineering processes

Position Responsibilities Include:

  • Responsible for Safety and Product Integrity of the PAC-3 Seeker

  • Final RAA for the specification, configuration, design and verification

  • Technical Interface to Leadership, Customers, and suppliers

  • Senior Engineering leader for the PAC-3 Production program

  • Leads Root Cause/Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations and resolution definition

  • End to End linkages in terms of program technical scope and risks

  • Integrated systems engineering approach (independent reviews, risk analysis, process rigor, etc.)

  • Strong technical relationship with customers, businesses and the other functions

  • Chair Safety Board, Material Review Board, Engineering Review Board, Risk Review Board, etc.

  • Lead engineering aspects of proposal preparation

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry

  • Five (5) or more years of experience in production or manufacturing environment

  • Five (5) or more years of experience leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 14 or more years of higher education and/or related work experience (Higher education includes college, university, technical school, licensing/certification programs, etc.)

  • Masters or Doctorate of Science degree in Engineering or related science or technology field degree

  • Experience using technical and program management techniques to manage large-scale technical production efforts

  • Experience with engineering processes and tools in a high rate production environment

  • Experience with Radar systems

  • Experience with Circuit Card Assembly and Production Processes

  • Experience with modernization of product and test equipment (DFM, DFT, DFA)

  • Extensive experience managing/leading large engineering projects

  • Proven experience effectively communicating and collaborating on multi-discipline teams

Typical Education/Experience:

Senior Lead (Level 5): Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years’ related work experience, Master+12 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Principal (Level 6): Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 20 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+15 years’ related work experience, Master+18 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility. Note: Basic relocation will be offered for eligible internal candidates.

Please note that the salary information shown below is a general guideline only.  Salaries are based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. 

Summary pay range for Senior Lead (Level 5): $147,050 – $198,950

Summary pay range for Principal (Level 6): $174,250 – $235,750

Referrals to this job are eligible for a monetary employee bonus.
