This position will be based out of Bright Star Secondary Charter Academy in Los Angeles, California. Performance responsibilities include but are not limited to:Serves as the primary substitute for all teachers at the school site. Follows classroom systems/procedures established by the classroom teacher, and manages student behavior in alignment with schoolwide practices to ensure all students are fully engaged in learning.Reinforces a culture of high expectations that includes character development and college preparation for all students.Implements lesson plans and instructional activities consistent with California Common Core State Standards, Bright Star Schools Instructional Guidelines, and teacher plans for substitutes.Assesses students regularly in accordance with Bright Star Schools guidelines and refines classroom activities to differentiate instruction for all students.Collaborates with Bright Star team members to improve and share instructional best practices.Actively participates in staff meetings and professional development as requested by the Principal and Assistant Principal Including attending department meetings, collaborating with teachers and engaging in instructional coaching sessions (when applicable).Provides teachers with timely, detailed substitute notes detailing student progress through instructional activities.Tracks critical student information and maintains accurate student records, including attendance, in accordance with Bright Star Schools procedures.Collaborates with classroom teachers, other team members, and outside service providers to address learning challenges in accordance with individual student plans.Hosts Office Hours after school when students need additional support.When not serving as a classroom substitute:Support in the collection and maintenance of applications for admission, cumulative records, forms, and other documents; secure missing forms; and ensuring the confidentiality of all student records and information.Support in entering student enrollment data and update all student records, including student registration and attendance, using the school’s student management software.Ensure that the school’s physical environment is at all times neat and orderly, including but not limited to the reception/administrative area, waiting area, copier room, supplies closet, records room, and teacher center.Translate as needed in oral and/or written form.Support document creation and distribution for school-wide events and initiatives.Assist the Dean of Operations with planning and preparing for school events and activities.Perform all duties designated by the Dean of Operations for the school’s successful functioning.QualificationsQualifications/Requirements:Must be organized, creative, independent and self-motivated, enthusiastic, dependable, detail-oriented, flexible in scheduling and prioritization, and driven by excellence.Must possess good communication skills to present facts and recommendations effectively in oral and written form, including accurate grammar and business correspondence knowledge.Must possess interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective relationships; demonstrated ability to communicate in situations requiring tact and poise; skilled in confidentiality and discretion.Must present a neat, professional appearance.Must be able to adjust tasks and focus with composure, and in accordance with changing deadlines.Bachelor’s Degree required.Must hold a valid Teaching Credential or a 30-day permit recognized by the CTC.Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred. Pay: Hourly Rate: $28 when serving as a substitute teacher, $15 – $17 when not serving as a substitute (rate will depend on experience and education) Status: Full Time (Monday – Friday) Location: Los Angeles, CA
