Responsibilities
Venice Family Clinic is a community healthcenter whose mission is “To provide quality primary health care to people inneed.” Venice Family Clinic cares for over 28,000 low-income patients in over120,000 visits annually who might otherwise go without critically needed healthcare services.

Venice Family Clinic has eleven clinical sites with over 350staff, 1,700 volunteers, and a budget of $50 million.

We provide high quality,comprehensive primary and specialty health care, dental, mental health,substance use treatment and child development services to underservedindividuals and families on the Westside of Los Angeles.

The Prevention Advocate for Venice Family Clinic-CommonGround’s Syringe Services Program (SSP) plays a vital role in helping reducethe transmission of HIV and Hepatitis C in our community.

Our program followsthe Harm Reduction model which calls for the non-judgmental, non-coerciveprovision of services and resources to people who use drugs and the communitiesin which they live in order to assist them in reducing attendant harm.

In this role, you will participate in syringe exchange on site and out inthe community, which includes providing sterile syringes and properly disposingof used ones.

You will conduct HIV and Hepatitis C testing and counseling andwill educate clients on safer injection practices, overdose prevention and waysto reduce harm to themselves and those around them.

You will alsol ensure newly diagnosed HIV+ and/or Hep C+ clients are referred and linkedto medical services.

Other duties include maintaining confidentiality ofparticipants, reviewing and completing data collection forms, compiling datafor monthly reports and helping co-workers in any other duties assigned.

As our Prevention Advocate SSP, you will spend a portion of your time on outreach providing our Syringe Services Program to peopleexperiencing homelessness.

This will include creating and maintainingrelationships with various “gate keepers” within surrounding communities toprovide information regarding our services.

You will seek clients and providereferrals to services offered by Venice Family Clinic
– Common Ground program.

You will slso support and develop culturally appropriate education and outreachmaterials and will build and maintain a contact network of agencies and localcommunity members to expand the Syringe Services Program

Qualifications Knowledge of HIV/AIDS and antibody testing, PrEP and PEP, community resources, Hepatitis C and STD knowledge, harm reduction, and syringe exchange Skill in database management, maintenance, queries, and data entry Public speaking and leadership ability Skill in providing individualized HIV health education, HIV testing and Counseling and Hepatitis C testing Ability to discuss sensitive matters in a non-judgmental manner and to respect confidentiality Ability to work effectively with people of diverse cultural and educational backgrounds Ability to effectively communicate in English and Spanish is preferred
