Dr. Shlomo Melmed, MD is looking for a Postdoctoral Scientist to join a diverse team!

The Melmed Laboratory focuses on elucidating mechanisms of pituitary tumor development and pathogenesis, translating the study of anterior pituitary function regulation to the clinic and establishing new modalities of diagnosis and treatment for pituitary diseases.

Working independently but in close cooperation and in consultation with the Principal Investigator and other Research Scientists, the Postdoctoral Scientist will perform routine and complex laboratory procedures throughout training period. The incumbent may develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols. This position is not responsible for generating grant funds.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • May assist in preparation of grant proposals.
  • May participate in publications and presentations as author or co-author.
  • Designs and performs experiments.
  • Will keep appropriate experimental records and documentation, and analyze the results.
  • Analyzes, interprets, summarizes, and compiles data.
  • Operates and maintains equipment and instruments.
  • Will investigate the mechanisms of pituitary tumorigenesis.

  1. Plasmid construction
  2. DNA/RNA/protein extraction
  3. SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis
  4. Western blotting
  5. Immunoprecipitation
  6. Luciferase reporter gene assay
  7. Site-directed mutagenesis
  8. Glutathione S-transferase (GST) pull-down experiments
  9. PCR, RT-PCR, quantitative real-time PCR, ELISA, IgG purification
  10. DNA digestion, DNA amplification, ligation and sub-cloning, DNA or siRNA transfection, and direct sequencing
  11. Mammalian cell culture and transfection
  12. Blood and organ collection (from rats and mice)
  13. Isolation of primary hepatocyte (rat)
  14. Primary culture of anterior pituitary cells (mice)
  15. Injection into tail vein of mice
  16. In vivo knockdown experiment by antisense oligonucleotide

 

Education:

Doctorate (MD, PhD, VMD, or DDS) in area directly related to field of research specialization is required.

Experience:

  • Acquires technical and theoretical knowledge of research project and objectives during one to five (1-5) year post-doctoral appointment.
  • Works independently on research projects designed by a mentor (typically the PI) within area of specialization.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform experimental protocols and procedures, including detailed data collection, and analysis and operation and maintenance of specialized equipment.
