Position description The Nicolaos Palaskas Lab in the Division of Hematology-Oncology, Department of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA is seeking a Postdoctoral candidate to conduct research within the UCLA Center for Iron Disorders.

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate, with an interest in learning and applying new techniques, competing for funding, and authoring publications.

The candidate will be directly supervised by Nicolaos Palaskas M.D., Ph.D., a HS Assistant Clinical Professor in the Division of Hematology-Oncology.

The main topic of research is regulation of ferroptosis in cancer cells, with a particular focus on the interface of mechanotransduction, iron metabolism, and lipid membrane remodeling.

The project will employ transcriptomics, quantitative proteomics, and lipidomics.

Skills required: Standard molecular and cellular biology experiments; Western blots, ELISA, PCR, colorimetry, cell culture, microscopy, flow cytometry, survival assays, transfections, siRNA knockdowns, lentiviral transduction, some experience with mouse husbandry and experimentation.

Skills highly desired: 3D culture, Mouse orthotopic xenografts, CRISPR, RNAseq analysis, R programming.

The UCLA Center for Iron Disorders is a brand-new and well-equipped lab with approximately 3000 square feet of space within the Immunity, Inflammation, Infection and Transplantation (I3T) Research Theme, in the UCLA Center for Health Sciences building.

It is comprised of 3 senior investigators, 3 junior investigators, 2 postdocs, 3 graduate students, and staff scientists.

It holds weekly joint lab meetings and a weekly open journal club.

A PhD is required or the candidate must be a PhD candidate with a graduation date of June 2021 or earlier.
