We are currently seeking an experienced Certified Phlebotomy Technician I for a Full-time on-site position in the Los Angeles City in CA.

 

Job Duties:

  • A phlebotomist’s first duty is to make sure that they are drawing blood from the right patient.
  • Verifies test requisitions by comparing information with nursing station log; bringing discrepancies to the attention of unit personnel.
  • Obtains blood specimens by performing venipunctures and finger sticks.
  • Maintains specimen integrity by using aseptic technique, following department procedures; observing isolation procedures.
  • Tracks collected specimens by initialing, dating, and noting times of collection; maintaining daily tallies of collections performed.
  • Performs bleeding-times tests by entering results to the computer; notifying pathologist of results falling outside normal ranges.
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
  • Resolves unusual test orders by contacting the physician, pathologist, nursing station, or reference laboratory; referring unresolved orders back to the originator for further clarification; notifying supervisor of unresolved orders.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • Serves and protects the hospital community by adhering to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and JAHO standards.

Job Requirements:

  • Qualified candidates must be California State certified in Phlebotomy (CPT I or CPT II).
  • Must have a minimum of one (1) year in the past 12 months direct phlebotomy experience in Pediatrics including blood collection by venipuncture and capillary technique from patients of all age groups; urine drug screen collections; paternity collections; difficult draws.
  • Comprehensive understanding of compliance and safety; ability to effectively communicate the importance of compliance and safety to others; courteous, proactive, and responsive customer service; computer and data entry experience.
  • Must have a valid CPR Card from American Heart Association OR American Red Cross ONLY.
  • Must have proof of MMR, Varicella vaccinations or titers (within last 12 months).
  • Must have a current TB/PPD or Chest X-ray (within last 12 months).
  • Health Clearance (within last 12 months)

 

Education Requirements:

  • High school graduate or equivalent, plus certification California Certified Phlebotomy Course State License. (CPT I License).
