Paralegal Job Description
Summary of Duties
Assist with eligibility and payment determinations for renters and landlords applying to major emergency rental assistance programs for the City of Los Angeles (City).
Assist with quality control of applications submitted for payment.
Services include but are not limited to monitoring, reviewing and assisting with determinations of program and funding eligibility for landlord and tenant applicants for the 2021 COVID-19 Emergency Renters Assistance Program (ERAP) program through review of tenant and landlord documentation received by partner agencies to assist with quality control and compliance in the administration of the 2021 ERAP-program.
May be assigned to review and coordinate document intake at the FamilySource Centers or to assist with coordination of approved payments with Accounting staff.
Review, evaluate, and analyze property ownership, property profiles and financial records from applications.
Interview landlords and tenants, as appropriate.
Validate the accuracy of all information and present well-founded recommendations for acceptance or rejection of applications based on findings.
Access various stand-alone databases, analyze confidential information, derive logical conclusions, based on the totality of all available materials and data presented or available, identify potential issues, reach supported conclusions and present recommendations.
Analyze banking reports, reconcile financial data, organize information to support internal controls and complete periodic audits.
Job Requirements:
Knowledge of:
· Microsoft Office Suite;
· Generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), desirable;
· Stand-alone computer systems;
· Principles of excellent customer services
Ability to:
Work Effectively and efficiently while prioritizing and managing duties; After training, work independently, with minimal supervision; Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information; Communicate effectively both orally and in writing; Establish facts and formulate valid conclusions based on evidence; Manage various assignments with differing timelines; Deal courteously and effectively with landlords, tenants and staff, as needed; Display flexibility in following instructions and handling changing program parameters as instructed.
Paralegals must provide their own computer with City compatible software programs, and instrumentalities required to perform the services herein via telecommuting and/or in an HCID office.
