MANAGING EDITOR

The person for this role should have a strong background in journalism in Asia, and bring an entrepreneurial, flexible, strategic, and execution expertise to the editorial team.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This position will curate and manage a social series of short, weekly mini docs.

Our stories should be the best, untold stories from Asia, by Asians, for the world.

Launching in English first but will be quickly expanding to many Asian languages across the platform.

Fluent in one or more Asian languages required.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

EDITORIAL STRATEGY

Develop and manage an editorial strategy with specific focus on storytelling across key selected categories and regions.

Develop an audio/visual/video format strategy in partnership with creative and production teams, maximizing our stories and prioritizing effort and spend on the most impactful pieces for the platform to attract and retain users.

Build catalog of 50+ EST stories and visual/audio assets over a 3 month period in preparation for the launch.

Strategize percentage of commissioning/original versus licensed to meet our goals and establish a strong editorial POV.

Work with internal team to ensure multi-language translations into EST editorial tone.

Quality check for creative consistency, tone, and accuracy each story prior to publication on the EST.

Planning and mapping editorial schedule with production team Working with management on prioritization of immersive, zeitgeist stories that will resonate deeply within the targeted Asian Youth audience.

Be a strong leader and voice for editorial within overall vision of EST

Editorial team
Management of editorial schedule on a weekly to monthly basis Build out a global network of Asian contributors / freelancers / editors / researchers In collaboration with head of production, oversee the editorial budget, production budget, production accounting, and building / managing operational costs associated with EST editorial team & strategy

Estimated Kick Off in June 2021

First Scope will be Full-time for 3 months (June 2021
– Sept 2021)

Preferred Geography: Preferably based in Asia.

Open to US based candidates willing to travel often.

Previous Experience: Have an experience working in editorial team or a media publisher/magazine as a editor, writer, or freelancer.

Have managed an editorial newsroom team with strong relationships with writers, copy editors, influencers, and talent.

Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Journalism or a related field plus 2 years of experience working in a news media organization OR Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Journalism or a related field plus 5 years of experience working in a news media organization.

Must have at least two years in a leadership role in both newsroom editorial and digital media product management.

Understanding of the digital landscape and a proven interest in keeping up to date with developments in social platforms.

Good knowledge of trends as well as activating compelling campaigns based around cultural moments.

Can show a portfolio of premium short or long form audio and video content.

Goal is to continue as staff into 2021/2022 with potential company equity.
