How You’ll Fulfill Your Mission Interpret dimensioned part drawings with fluency in order to understand the tolerancing requirements.
Set up CNC metal-cutting machines such as mills or lathes, by building fixture setups for new (or recurring) jobs and establishing part datums and tool lengths.
Operate CNC machines by ensuring that the machine is kept running and that downtime for inspection, maintenance, or changeover is minimized.
Collaborate with programmers or production managers when program adjustments or new setups are required.
Support shop operations by contributing to material prep, deburring, and daily maintenance on your equipment Inspect your in-process parts using a variety of handheld inspections tools including calipers, micrometers, and hard gauges.
Work with the Quality Control Lab for inspecting first articles and to identify offsets that will require adjustment at the machine.
Communicate positively with fellow machinists, managers, engineers, and quality control staff in order to help build a transparent and cooperative atmosphere.
Improve shop effectiveness by identifying bottlenecks and recurring issues.
You have an understanding of what continuous improvement looks like, and you leverage your Machinist role to support that end.
Qualifications 2 years’ experience as a Setup Machinist Possess manual machining experience from prior employment or trade school Ability to calculate feeds, speeds and can understand basic G code Understand the differences between different types of materials, their grades, their relative machineability, and can identify them quickly Proficient with measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, and hard gauges Highly proficient reading shop drawings and can communicate the requirements set forth by the drawing to others if requested Ability to lift 40lbs, push heavy carts or crates, and can stretch, reach, kneel, or crawl as may be required by certain tasks Monitor machinery in order to identify necessary maintenance or safety issues Experience using Excel, Word, and email, and are otherwise comfortable using a computer Ability to undertake projects and tasks with a distinct attention to detail, a sense of urgency, and an optimistic attitude Possess excellent communication skills (written and oral) Desired Multipliers 5 years of hands-on experience as a machinist in a professional shop environment Formal education in a machining program Experience in a high-mix, fast paced job shop CAD or CAM experience on any platform Understanding of GD&T Experience in fabrication, including welding, sheet metal, waterjet, assembly, or finish work Training in an engineering or design discipline ITAR Requirements: This position requires compliance with U.S.
Government space technology trade restrictions, specifically the International Trafficking in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and additional regulations governing satellite, launch vehicle, missile, and other related technologies.
