Overview

Founded in 1887, California Hospital Medical Center is a 318-bed, acute care, not-for-profit hospital located in downtown Los Angeles. The hospital offers a full complement of services including a Level II trauma center, the Los Angeles Center for Women’s Health, obstetrics and pediatric services, and comprehensive cardiac and surgical services.  California Hospital is home to Hope Street Margolis Family Center, a community health, education, and resource center helping thousands of families and children.

Responsibilities

Provides effective and comprehensive evidence based nursing care to achieve desired health outcomes. Organizes and prioritizes patient care activities balanced with the needs and comfort of the patient. Collaborates with other disciplines to insure comprehensive, holistic and effective plan of care. Applies knowledge of current practice standards, guidelines, statutes, rules and regulations. Demonstrates accountability for own ethical behavior and supports ethical practice by addressing or escalating issues. Serves as a patient advocate. Completes patient assessments competently. Assesses for and identifies needs of unit-specific patient population: Assesses for and identifies any physical, emotional, psychosocial, spiritual, educational, discharge and cultural needs. Completes an individualized plan of care based on assessment of the patient. Coordinates with other disciplines when indicated. Prioritizes care needs and sets measurable goals and time frames. Includes patient and family in the planning. Implements interventions based on nursing and medical plan of care. Manages patient population, diagnosis and age specific needs through appropriate adaptation of interventions. Appropriately utilizes equipment and supplies (including following established policies, procedures and protocols governing the transport, handling and storage of intravenous fluids). After implementation, reassesses the patient to verify effectiveness of interventions. Updates the plan of care to reflect current care needs.

Qualifications

  • Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in California
  • One-year acute care ER experience
  • Basic Dysrhythmia EKG Certification
  • LA City Fire Safety Training (within 90 days from date of hire)
  • Crisis Prevention Institute Training (within 90 days from date of hire)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required for all areas.
  • ACLS, PALS and MOAB required for Emergency
