Legal Secretary – Litigation

Direct Counsel has partnered with a boutique, rapidly growing litigation firm focusing on labor and employment, business litigation, and personal injury and is seeking a legal secretary. The litigation team is comprised of personable, published, and well-known trial attorneys. Candidates will be working closely with the incredibly talented senior attorneys and the managing partner and will receive significant experience in and exposure to various areas of litigation. The law firm is committed to maintaining a fun, comfortable but fast-paced working environment. Direct Counsel is looking for a talented, driven, and self-motivated team player for this full-time position, and someone interested in growth opportunities. The position entails working with the litigation team to proactively litigate cases and includes calendaring, court filings, preparing pleading and discovery templates, assisting in research projects, setting up depositions, mediation court appearances, and similar tasks.

Responsibilities

  • 3+ years of legal secretary experience at a litigation firm preferably an employment law firm
  • Knowledge of litigation calendaring deadlines.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Intricate knowledge of state court procedures and deadlines.
  • Ability to prepare complaints and discovery using templates and to file in State and Federal courts.
  • Conducting legal research using resources like Lexis-Nexis
  • Managing and organizing documents using document management systems
  • Assisting with document review and discovery processes
  • Maintaining calendars, scheduling appointments, and managing deadlines
  • Coordinating meetings and conference calls To be successful in this role, you should possess the following skills:
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in data entry and computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of legal terminology and procedures
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively
  • Familiarity with document management systems and legal research databases like Lexis Nexis
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Bilingual: Spanish & English (Plus)
