Lead CT Technologist – MLKCH

ResponsibilitiesUnder direct supervision of the CT Manager and CTMedical Director, and on a continuing and assigned basis, incumbent performscomplex Computed Tomography imaging procedures at least 50% of the time, toinclude production of diagnostic images of the human anatomy and vascularstructures following prescribed protocols.

Incumbent to perform accurate image archival via appropriate localarchival media & Verification & Archival of complete studies on thePACS System, operate post processing/3D Work Stations, operate Power Injectorsin preparation and administration of IV Contrast material under directsupervision of a physician in accordance with department/hospital policies aswell as State and Federal regulations, maintain accurate up-to-date records ofprocedures performed, ensure accurate processing of Radiology requisitions inthe Radiology Information System, practice sterile techniques as needed,maintain aseptic conditions and use universal precautions at all times, coordinateexams with other services, coordinate patient transportation to the appropriateareas, communicate pertinent patient information with Nursing units, exercisestrict patient confidentiality, monitor patient’s comfort while in the CTsection, participate in departmental In-Service training programs, demonstratea professional attitude by being courteous towards patients, co-workers, andphysicians.

The Technologist must alsodemonstrate: knowledge of Radiation Safety, an understanding of humancross-sectional anatomy, physiology, pathology, medical terminology and a highdegree of accuracy in patient positioning / image acquisition, must remainsensitive to his/her patients’ physical and emotional condition through goodcommunication, patient assessment, patient monitoring and patient care skills,act as the primary liaison between patients and section radiologists / othermembers of the support team, use professional, ethical judgment and criticalthinking when performing all duties, perform first aid on patients as neededuntil further assistance can be obtained to maintain patient’s health.Technologist to float between various UCLA Radiology scanning areas, adhere to on-call, holiday, andweekend work schedules as prepared by the manager, participate in rotatingshifts as required.

On a regular basis, the Lead CT Technologist is responsible for complete section operations during his/her shiftin all scanning areas.

TheLead CT Technologist will also be assigned to the Mobile Stroke Unit on aregular basis, working alongside the mobile stroke team during the dispatch,assessment, treatment and transport of acute stroke patients in the localcommunity.

During dispatch activities,the Lead CT Technologist will be responsible for the image acquisition ofpatients placed in the mobile stroke unit, along with the related imagetransmission and documentation activities via telehealth and the electronicmedical record.

The Lead CT Technologistwill also perform CT unit routine checks and calibrations, as well asparticipate in mobile-stroke-related study and research activity such asprotocol review, compliance, patient information gathering, patient follow-up,and other duties as assignedQualificationsRequired Certifications:CRT certificationARRT certificationBLS/CPR certificationAt least 5 years of experience as a CT TechnologistAbilities and Skills:1.

Attends all mandatory departmental and hospital In-Service programs2.

Attends CT section staff meetings and/or stays informed of agenda of said meetings by reviewing e-mails from CT Manager on a daily basis3.

Maintains current BLS certification4.

Submits current licenses and continuing education documentation in a timely manner for inclusion in personnel record/file5.

Assists in training and evaluation of Radiologic Technology students and new employees.6.

Assumes complete supervision / responsibility for section operation during shift7.

Supervises section Technologists and Hospital Assistants during shift8.

Evaluates and uses new or revised imaging protocols and procedures as required and provides feedback9.

Serves as technical resource in resolution of complex problems related to imaging and post processing10.

Participates in the evaluation of new equipment and procedures11.

Maintains own technical competence through active participation in scientific meetings/seminars and in related educational activities12.

Participates in own performance appraisal by completing competency assessments, identifying goals, and reviewing progress with Manager and Medical Director13.

Demonstrates progress in attaining goals and objectives set forth in annual review14.

Monitors staffing needs daily, makes adjustments accordingly and arranges for coverage needed in case of sick calls with CT Manager’s approval15.

On a daily basis performs CI CARE Assessment Rounds16.

Reviews Outpatient schedules 48 hours in advance and documents appropriate protocols on the Radiology Requisitions and / or Schedule17.

Reviews Outpatient schedules on a daily basis for correct RIS Exam Code utilization and reports all needed changes to the Financial Counseling office for approval18.

Sets work assignments, prioritizes / triages work flow to best utilize personnel and equipment19.

Accommodates Daily Add-On patient requests20.

Carries the hand-held phone in the inpatient scanning area 100% of the time21.

Maintains Inpatient work area productivity by keeping scanner room non-productive periods to a maximum of 15 minutes22.

Reviews and resolves problems arising from staff, patients and the public.

Seeks additional assistance from the CT Manager and / or Medical Director23.

Works cooperatively with other Radiology Managers to resolve issues, as needed24.

In the absence of the CT Manager, serve as a liaison to the University, Community Police and Fire Officers to emphasize safety guidelines and coordinate emergency response needs25.

In the absence of the CT Manager, serve as liaison to Occupational Health Officer to develop / maintain safe working conditions and operations for staff, patients and public26.

Models positive behaviors for staff and positively encourages and supports staff members in the pursuit of Service Excellence27.
