Our Environmental Services Group (ESG) provides our clients with expertise in climate change, environmental assessment & management, noise & vibration, social impact management, sustainable development design, and water resources. Hatch is currently seeking a Senior NEPA/CEQA Professional who is a recognized expert and an experienced impact assessment planner, project manager, or regulatory specialist to join the ES team based in the Southern California Area.

The Hatch Environmental & Sustainability (ES) team undertakes studies and delivers environmental services in the areas of Impact Assessments (IAs), planning, permitting, construction management, community engagement, sustainability/corporate social responsibility, climate change and related project delivery services. Our wealth of engineering, environmental, procurement and construction management experience and our global footprint is highly differentiated in the growing environmental services market.

As the successful candidate, you will:

  • Collaborating with team members across the business to identify environmental and sustainability opportunities, and potential projects
  • Lead and contribute to business development activities, and developing proposals and estimates for submission for environmental. 
  • Handling Deliverables for Projects   including technical advisory services to detailed design support, to permitting strategy and implementation
  • Contributing to project planning and strategy development
  • Managing projects and client’s environmental and sustainability outcomes
  • Liaising with clients to develop project briefings and sourcing information
  • Applying a deep understanding of environmental and sustainability principles to solve complex problems
  • Producing deliverables and reports to meet client requirements for projects
  • Mentoring juniors in the environment team and educating project teams around their environmental and sustainability commitments, and potential constraints.
  • Provide leadership, technical direction, peer review and advice within our existing environmental consulting practice in collaboration with Hatch’s Business Units, Practices and integral support for business planning and Key Account Management program.
  • Working with the Global Director for Impact Assessment and Permitting to develop innovative approaches to address the evolving methods and approaches to Impact Assessment.
  • Strong Project Management skills for coordination of key environmental deliverables.
  • Provide technical and quality review for client deliverables.
  • Participate in resource planning, mentorship, and advisory leadership to project teams.
  • Work collaboratively with integrated, multidisciplinary teams, liaising with and supporting global peers.

 

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in environmental sciences, planning, environmental management, environmental engineering, social impact assessment and/or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 10-years’ experience in managing and delivering NEPA/CEQA, permitting and regulatory approvals activities on major mining, infrastructure, or energy projects.
  • In-depth understanding of Impact Assessment, permitting and approvals and regulatory requirements across California and the greater West.
  • Ability to mentor and inspire environmental teams, collaborate with peers, and integrate with engineering teams.
  • Experience working on major EPCM projects.
  • Entrepreneurial with a technical soul.
  • Effectively managing internal and external stakeholders.
  • Effective, open communication and presentation style with the ability to plan and deliver best in class, high quality deliverables.

 

Preferred:

  • Ability to be flexible, learn and perform challenging tasks outside their area of skills and experience.
  • A recognized NEPA/CEQA expert in California, who has a strong network of contacts with practitioners in industry, government and academia and is looking to take the next step in their career development.
