The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Information Technology Services (ITS) is seeking a Senior HR Generalist who will be responsible for managing comprehensive HR processes, providing strategic direction, and mentoring the IT department’s HR practitioners. This team member will combine deep expertise in HR practices with leadership capabilities to drive HR initiatives and ensure the IT department’s HR practices are in alignment with organizational goals. The Senior HR Generalist will play a pivotal role in talent management, employee engagement, policy development, and fostering a positive work culture. The Senior HR Generalist will lead collaboration with IT department managers to assess talent needs and create strategies to fill critical skills gaps, and provide coaching to managers on employee performance management, career development, and leadership initiatives. Additionally, this individual will serve as the HR subject matter expert on critical IT initiatives and projects.

The Senior HR Generalist will positively impact UCLA’s operations and culture by enabling UCLA IT to attract, retain, and develop its staff in service of the institution’s academic, research and service mission. This team member will advance the University’s mission by delivering exceptional information technology services comprehensively and consistently across faculty, staff, and students. Qualifications for Position Qualifications Required/Preferred

Five years of experience working in one or more of the following fields: human resources, talent, or other related field. Required

Advanced knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, knowledge of functional area and understands how work may affect other areas. Required

Demonstrated success with human resources concepts, policies and procedures, employment practices, labor relations, salary administration, performance management, and other areas of human resources. Required

Demonstrated leadership abilities in driving HR strategies and initiatives, including mentoring and developing junior HR practitioners. Required

Advanced knowledge of a human resources information/management system (HRIS/HRMS), and / or other related business software programs and systems. Required

Demonstrated ability to handle difficult or volatile situations / individuals effectively. Required

Strong written and verbal communication skills and is able to communicate complex technical ideas to a diverse community of colleagues and stakeholders. Can relay technical information to audiences of technical and non-technical stakeholders. Required

Able to establish and advance positive working relationships and a strong rapport with a diverse community of colleagues including team members, stakeholders, and customers. Required

Advanced organizational skills and is able to balance competing priorities and deliver concurrent projects to various stakeholder types. Experience working in a project-based environment using leading project management practices including schedule management, status reporting, and communication of project risks and issues. Required

Advanced problem-solving skills; ability to uncover root of difficult problems and scope solutions based on knowledge of available resources and timelines as well as awareness of vision and strategy. Seeks information from multiple and diverse sources to inform solutions. Demonstrated ability to make decisions with integrity. Required

Experience participating in activities to advance an inclusive environment that values equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging. Required

Thinks creatively and introduces innovations such as the incorporation of new technologies or processes. Thrives in an ever-changing, fast-paced environment. Required

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of experience/training in one or more of the following fields: human resources, public administration, business administration, communications, liberal arts, information technology, or another related field. Required

Seven or more years of experience working in one or more of the following fields: human resources, talent, or other related field. Preferred

Experience in complex higher education environments, serving academic and administrative functions of a large public university. Preferred

Bachelor’s degree in one or more of the following fields: human resources, public administration, business administration, communications, liberal arts, information technology, or another related field. Preferred

SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP, or similar certification. Preferred
