Head of Landside Execution

As the Head of Landside Transportation Execution, your mission is to manage our West Coast landside operation, monitor our network’s overall performance, and manage vendors.

To be successful, you will need to demonstrate agility, demonstrate a proactive approach, and collaborate with cross-function teams and Senior Leadership.

You will need to have the ability to drive change and insight to develop and implement cost savings and process improvement initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Responsible for leading a specific geographical area and reporting to the Regional Head of Landside Transportation Execution (LTX).

• Manage a large group of ILWU union clerical staff in both Northern and Southern California locations.

• Participate in union meetings as well as negotiations in conjunction with labour relation leaders.

• Work through grievances and arbitrations as needed to support the organization.

• Develop priorities to drive performance and ensure alignment to objectives.

• Monitor, record and report cost savings, service failures, cost changes, and any other input towards key measurements.

• Drive collaboration between cross-functional teams.

• Lead and contribute towards the operating system, build a high-performance culture.

• Build a good working relationship with vendors and customers and staff to ensure customer satisfaction.

• Ensure all new change initiatives are implemented by the team, and within the standard global landscape.

• Lead and develop team through coaching, goal setting, periodic feedback, and reviews.

• Drives cost reductions within the function.

• Has responsibility for training and growing employees within function, improves the way the team works.

• Challenge, drive and improve global standards.

We are looking for

Job Specifications:

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree required

• Five or more years transportation experience required preferably in operational logistics

• Five of more years’ experience in a leadership role

• Union management experience preferred

Technical Skills and Competencies:

• Proven leadership skills and ability to create followership.

• Customer oriented

• Strong execution mindset

• Strong understanding of transportation industry and in particular internal shipment cost drivers

• Articulate individual who can relate to people at all levels of an organization and possesses excellent communication skills

• Organizational and time management skills – multi-tasking and prioritizing, planning work activities efficiently to meet deadlines and high-level goals

• Conflict resolution and negotiation – bringing others together and trying to reconcile differences

• Drive for results – drives for results and success, conveys a sense of urgency and drives issues to closure, persist despite obstacles and opposition

• Collaborative – works together with others in the business unit to achieve results, fosters teamwork

• Proven ability to deliver under pressure

• Working knowledge of MS office products and ability to quickly adapt to software
