Global Head of Platform Safety

The safety of our community is of paramount importance to Snap. We are looking for a Global Head of Platform Safety to represent and help coordinate and inform Snap’s safety efforts by communicating and advising externally with a myriad of stakeholders in the safety and law enforcement community and internally with our teams entrusted with the safety of our community. This role will report into our VP of Global Public Policy and operate cross-functionally at the intersection of our operations, product, policy, legal, and communications teams. The Global Head of Platform Safety will raise awareness of and build trust in Snap’s approach to safety, maintain and build deeper relationships with our own Safety Advisory Board, law enforcement partners, governmental entities, and safety organizations.

As the main external voice for safety at Snap, the Global Head of Platform Safety will liaise with safety organizations, attend industry safety conferences, participate in governmental roundtables, serve on the boards of external safety groups to which Snap belongs, and engage as needed with the media. While the primary focus of the Global Head of Platform Safety will be to focus on and further drive our efforts in youth safety, this role will also encompass educating stakeholders and the public on Snap’s comprehensive strategy to ensure the platform remains a positive place by combating all online harms including illegal activity, violence, bullying, extremism, and hate speech and further advance Snap’s culture of safety on the platform and inside the company. 

What you’ll do:

Establish expertise, credibility, and recognized industry leadership in global safety policies.

Help ensure that Snap’s Community Guidelines and policies remain best-in-class in their scope and continue to develop our policies to further prioritize safety. 

Work closely with internal and external stakeholders, Platform Integrity, Legal and Public Policy, Communications, Product, Engineering, in developing, improving, executing and explaining our safety policies.

Serve as the primary liaison to external stakeholders including parents groups, law enforcement agencies, safety organizations and oversee management of the Snap Safety Advisory Board. 

Represent Snap at industry, government and non-profit working groups, task forces, events, safety boards, and conferences serving as Snap’s key external spokesperson on key safety matters.

Support our brand safety efforts by working with industry coalitions to both explain Snap’s commitment to platform safety and help identify areas for improvement.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

A proven ability for communicating effectively, and working with government officials, NGOs, coalitions and other stakeholder groups.

Strong understanding of digital safety, particularly youth safety issues, and existing relationships with safety stakeholders, academia, law enforcement, and the wider partner community.

Excellent communication and advocacy skills and sound political judgement.

Forward thinking and proactive ability on digital safety and tech policy issues. Ability to rapidly understand and master complex policy issues.

Ability to work independently/ self-starter in a fast-paced, multicultural environment.

Teammate with a positive attitude, motivation and a sense of humor. Articulate and thoughtful and creative in approach to problem solving.

Demonstrated ability to work with a wide range of external groups and individuals on sensitive issues, including those who are opponents or critics.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in relevant field.

15+ years relevant experience in public policy, technology policy, law or law enforcement.
