Bat Conservation International GIS Analyst Western United States Status: Part-time, non-exempt Reports to: Geospatial Team Lead (Priyesh Patel) Key Relationships: Habitat Protection & Restoration Program, Conservation Department Salary: $26/hour, dependent on experience (plus overtime pay) BCI and our Mission Bat Conservation International (BCI), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to ending bat extinctions worldwide, seeks one part-time GIS Analyst to join BCI’s Conservation Department. Ideal candidates will be based within reasonable travel distance of major western U.S. cities. The GIS Analyst will work as part of the Habitat Protection & Restoration Program. Primary Responsibilities and Expectations The successful candidate will provide geospatial assistance to the entire Habitat Protection and Restoration (HP&R) program. They will be responsible for setting up field staff with the necessary tools to collect geospatial and biological data at project sites, creating a variety of high-quality maps, assisting staff with troubleshooting geospatial hardware & software, querying geospatial data, data analysis, managing several GIS databases, and working with HP&R staff and partners to create new geospatial products and tools using existing available resources and/or the acquisition of new hardware or software (drones, new sensors, etc.). Occasional field work in the western United States will be required to understand existing workflows and/or test and train staff on new workflows. Camping will sometimes be necessary at field sites and gear could be provided upon request for those who do not have or cannot afford camping gear. Work Schedule The location of this position is flexible to the western United States with preference to being somewhere close to airport travel access. This is a part-time position that will be remote (work from home) with the exception of occasional field work. A laptop computer will be provided by BCI. Outside of important meetings, the successful candidate will be able to work their hours with a flexible schedule of their choosing during weekdays. Field work will be approximately two to four times a year and will require traveling to project sites and sleeping in or near field locations. Projects are often in remote, mountainous terrain near small communities with limited services. Field sessions typically last five weekdays, including paid travel days, though some projects may last longer and may include working weekends. Travel and fieldwork days range from 8-12 working hours, sometimes more. Overnight lodging will usually be provided in hotel rooms or shared house rentals, with private bedrooms for each team member. Meals, equipment, and travel costs will be reimbursed to federal per diem standards.
