This company is growing, with lots of room for advancement and great benefits!R&DFrom conception to launch: contribute to new product development of conventional foods, functional foods, meal replacements, dietary supplements and medical foodsResearch, develop, and/or review formulations for current and future products to ensure they meet claims, food safety standards, and quality requirements while delivering the targeted nutrition rigorously in line with company’s findings and scienceConduct experiments and produce sample productsResearch, analyze, and validate current and new ingredients, manufacturing processes, packaging, and food technologies Explore and design alternative manufacturing methods or improved ways of preserving, processing, packaging, storing and delivering foods, using knowledge of chemistry, microbiology, and other sciencesStudy methods to improve aspects of foods such as chemical composition, flavor, color, texture, nutritional value and convenienceSearch for substitutes for harmful or undesirable activitiesStudy the structure and composition of food or the changes food undergo in storage and processingResearch and qualify new raw materials and other ingredients from suppliersWork on packaging innovation and technologyRecord, analyze and summarize research dataUtilize formulation software to create and update formulations (ESHA Genesis)Research new costreducing manufacturing processes that meet customer and regulatory requirementsPrepare product costings based on raw materials and manufacturing costs to ensure profitable productsProduct specifications, Quality, and Regulatory Support Establish product specifications for new and existing products Computing percentages of ingredients, formulas and other factors by using mathematical and chemical proceduresEvaluate the nutritional value and sensory/organoleptic qualities of products, ensuring that flavors met specificationsDesign, conduct function and sensory evaluation of new ingredients, flavors and finished products including stability studiesSupport testing and quality evaluation of raw materials and finished productsCoordinate independent laboratory testingRecord research and operational data, maintaining records of testing result and other documents as required by state or other governing agenciesCommunication and Managerial Responsibilities Communicate effectively with relevant parties regarding food quality and safety concernsSupport the CMC functionManage scientific or technical project resources (for example by ordering supplies to maintain inventories in laboratories)Perform regular maintenance of laboratory and technical equipmentManage and complete assigned research and development projects within specified timelines, following and executing a stagegate processEnsure adherence to GMP and other regulatorsOther duties as assignedQualifications Master of Science in foodrelated sciences (e.g. food science/technology, food/chemical engineering, biochemistry)Minimum of 510 years of experience in a food chemist positionWork experience with dietary supplements and in the medical foods category are highly recommendedExperience with plant based food development extremely desired
