Experience/Education
1. B.A. Degree from a four-year college or university in child development, early childhood education, education, social work, psychology, or a related field and/or 2 years of training and experience in areas that include: parent engagement, family support the theories and principles of child growth and development, early childhood education, particularly infants and toddlers, and Head Start Programming.
2. Previous experience providing EHS Home visits or direct services to low-income families and in working with persons of varied experience and ethnic backgrounds.
Skills/Characteristics
1. Knowledge of local community resources and how to access services for children and families strongly preferred.
2. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
3. Knowledge of Early Head Start federal regulations, performance standards and services, particularly within the content areas of family engagement services and parent involvement, preferred.
4. Knowledge of standard record keeping including progress notes and maintenance of required documentation.
5. Knowledge of ChildPlus preferred.
6. Must be able to work with a low income, ethnically and culturally diverse population.
7. Must have good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team.
8. Must have a clear criminal record following a fingerprint screening with the Department of Justice related to offenses and/or convictions for child abuse, child neglect and violent felonies.
9. Must provide evidence of reliable, insured transportation available for travel during working hours with evidence of a valid driver’s license, good driving record and current automobile liability insurance.
10. Bilingual preferred, but not required.
MAJOR DUTIES/FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Parent and Family Engagement
1. Provides resource and referral information to support Early Childhood Parent Coaches and client needs and confirms follow-up to ensure access to services.
2. Provides case management services to families in the Early Head Start program, including direct services to families by assisting them in meeting their goals.
3. Assists with the design and progress of family goals through the Family Partnership Agreement and suggests interventions and/or resources to Child and Family Home Visitors.
4. Models appropriate advocacy skills for parents in working with community agencies, professionals, and schools.
5. Coordinates donations including CARE portal requests, and provides support for families when needed to access necessary resources.
6. Coordinates and provides parent training, workshops and activities based on program data and parent feedback.
7. Provides parent training from selected program parent curriculum including Abriendo Puertas, and Parent Café.
8. Provides Family Development Credential training to EHS program staff.
9. Maintains a working knowledge of community resources and current trends in social services.
10. Participate in Multidisciplinary Team Meeting, prepare and present case presentation.
11. Encourage program families to participate in parent orientation, parent committee meetings, Policy Council and other parent activities.
12. Ensures center Parent Lab is welcoming and in working order.
13. Coordinates DPSS Toy Loan program with center families.
Health and Nutrition
1. Assists in gathering health data, i.e. CHDP, well baby documentation, immunizations.
2. Assists with input of immunization records in ChildPlus.
3. Assists with weekly pick-up, sort and weigh of donated produce from farmer’s market.
4. Assists with Nutrition TO GO program coordination and distribution.
5. Assist with conducting the 10 day newborn visit, when needed.
6. Builds and maintains relationships with all health and nutrition sources- other Head Start programs and community providers.
7. Assists in the coordination of HSAC meetings.
8. Demonstrates working knowledge of Head Start Performance standards related to Health and Nutrition.
Secondary Project Responsibilities
- Maintains professionalism, working cooperatively with EHS staff and parents; provides leadership and guidance in treating all children and their families with dignity and respect.
- When needed carries a caseload of 5-6 families, including those with children with disabilities.
- Ensures the center is appropriate and welcoming to children and their families.
- Models appropriate communication techniques to staff and parents.
- Attends scheduled EHS management and team meetings.
6. Works with management team and assists with program self-assessments, program audits, and community assessments.
- Provides verbal and written reports of duties listed above to supervisor.
8. Monitors the collection and analysis of program data and reports the use of data to the Program Director on a quarterly basis.
- Maintains confidentiality as required by the law and El Nido Family Center’s EHS policy.
- Ability to work a varied schedule, including some evenings and weekends.
- Responsible for in-kind as it relates to Family Wellbeing.
- Other duties as assigned.
