Background : One Roof Los Angeles is a collaborative of partners in Los Angeles County that convene to address the housing needs of child welfare-involved families and Transition Age Youth (TAY) through cross-sector alignment, systems change, and the development of housing resources.

One Roof partners include: the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA), LA County Chief Executive Office’s Homeless Initiative (CEO-HI), Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA), Los Angeles County Development Authority (LACDA), Department of Health Services (DHS), Center for Strategic Partnerships (CSP), Watson Consulting Group (WCG), and Corporation for Supportive Housing (CSH).

Families and TAY with lived experience of navigating the child welfare system and housing/homelessness system in Los Angeles have unique expertise.

The collaborative would like to have lived expertise advocates attend meetings and bring the voice of someone with lived experience to these conversations.

About WCG and CSH: Watson Consulting Group (WCG) and Corporation for Supportive Housing (CSH) support the goals of the One Roof collaborative with the provision of consulting and technical assistance.

WCG and CSH will be overseeing the engagement of the Lived Expertise Advocates.

WCG uplifts marginalized communities in the Los Angeles area by working with nonprofit, governmental, and philanthropic agencies on organizational and systems change.

CSH is national organization that advances permanent supportive housing as a solution to homelessness through innovation, advocacy, education, and empowerment.

About the position :

The Lived Expertise Advocate Consultants will receive support and guidance from both WCG and CSH.

One consultant will represent families (Family Lived Expertise Advocate Consultant) and one consultant will represent Transition Age Youth (TAY) (TAY Lived Expertise Consultant).

Responsibilities of the Lived Expertise Advocate Consultant :
Actively participate (in-person or virtually) in quarterly LA One Roof Core Team meetings and bi-annual LA One Roof Collaborative meetings.
Join sub-group meetings related to the above-mentioned objective and outcomes (as applicable).
Meet with WCG and/or CSH consultants monthly for check-ins to prepare and debrief on content.
Depending on interests and skill set, co-create agendas and materials and co-facilitate meetings/agenda items.
Provide insight and thought partnership on processes, materials, and decisions.
Commit 50 hours per year including but not limited to: attending meetings, preparing for meetings by reviewing and co-creating materials, attending trainings, etc.
Qualifications of Family Lived Expertise Advocate Consultant :

Required:

· Have prior involvement with the child welfare system within Los Angeles County as a parent or guardian.

· Have prior experience with a housing crisis or homelessness within the Los Angeles area, including living on the streets, staying in a shelter, or temporarily living with a friend or family member due to the loss of a living situation (for example “doubled up” or “couch surfing”).

· Be safe and have stable housing at the time of applying to be a Lived Expertise Advocate Consultant.

In order to ensure that involvement with One Roof LA does not harm an advocate, One Roof Los Angeles will make every effort to ensure that advocates engaged for this opportunity are not currently experiencing a housing or other crisis and have the available time and capacity to meaningfully engage in this work.

· Be interested in drawing upon their experiences to contribute to One Roof LA meetings, conversations, and work.

· Be willing and able to commit to completing the roles and responsibilities outlined above.

· Have reasonably reliable access to the internet through a computer, phone, or other device, in order to ensure ability to complete roles and responsibilities.

This access may be through a public device or in a public space, such as at a local library.

Preferred:

· Have experience working with computers.

· Have experience working with virtual meeting software such as Teams, Zoom, or WebEx.

· Have experience working with stakeholders (stakeholders may include clients, members, staff, leadership, board members, donors, or other individuals involved with nonprofit organizations, government agencies, or community groups).

· Have experience facilitating presentations to stakeholders.

Contract Terms :

· Compensation is $50 per hour, with an expected commitment of 50 hours per year ($2,500 per year).

Hours may not exceed 50 hours per 12-month term.

· Contract term will be for 12 months (1 year), approximately November 2021 to November 2022.

Depending on funding availability, contracts may be extended.

· Advocates will be classified as independent contractors.

·The work for this position will be primarily conducted remotely.

Some in-person meetings in the Los Angeles area may be required.
