Editorial Assistant, ZócaloArizona State UniversityZocalo Public SquareOff-Campus: Los Angeles72480BR Job DescriptionUnder the direction of the editor-in-chief, supports all aspects of Zócalo’s daily (5 pieces of content/week) online publication production; executes social media strategy, optimizing content for Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram and assisting with community management and audience engagement; and grows with the position, taking advantage of opportunities to pitch ideas, learn from editorial staff, and take on new responsibilities as warranted. **Please note this position is based in Los Angeles and cannot be performed remotely. Salary Range$58,240-$58,400 per year; DOE Close Date19-October-2021 Essential DutiesProduces essays, poetry, and other features using our custom WordPress platform, including proofreading as the final set of eyes on all content, formatting copy for the web, uploading artwork and ensuring proper captions and credits, and doing some SEO work; occasional liaising with SEO consultant and web developer to ensure that best practices are being implemented and to troubleshoot as necessary; helping prepare monthly traffic reports plus other analytics as needed; and working closely with the entire editorial staff to help ensure that finalized pieces of content are delivered on time.Coordinates social media channels including Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram; optimizes content for sharing on different networks, collaborating creatively with editorial staff; writes, designs, and schedules posts; participates in community management and audience engagement; supports events team with some social media artwork and posts as well as ideas for marketing/promotions; pitches ideas to entire staff to promote content and the organization creatively, and implements approved ideas; covers events on social media, including live Tweeting and other real-time promotion; and is part of a team that handles collection and analysis of social media data/analytics.Supports editorial staff in research and idea generation, including ordering new and forthcoming books from publishers; helping find writers for story ideas; taking notes at bi-weekly editorial meetings and distributing afterward; and other tasks as necessary; and supports editor-in-chief and executive director in special projects, including annual book and poetry prizes and semi-annual trustees’ meetings. Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree in field appropriate to area of assignment AND two years administrative/coordinator program experience; OR, Six years of progressively responsible administrative/coordinator program experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. Desired QualificationsKnowledge of website publishing, including content management and some HTML and/or WordPress.Knowledge of the principles, practices, methods and techniques of proofreading and utilizing a style guide.Knowledge of social media trends and practices.Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud.Skill in writing, editing, and other aspects of publication work.Skill in basic design.Skill in time management, planning and collaborating with a team.Skill in both verbal and written communication.Ability to translate long-form content into creative social media posts.Ability to work effectively in an environment subject to tight deadlines which often includes conflicting priorities.

Working EnvironmentActivities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.Ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see and hear to perform essential functions.
