Ensures diet lists are collected from units, including telephone and verbal orders, at designated times. Tallies food items needed for each diet, prepares menus for each patient and contacts nursing stations for late changes. Considers patients food preferences and meets nutritional needs within diet orders. Ensures correct meal service to all patients.
Prepares coffee, hot water, iced tea, milk, creamers, etc. for tray line. Prepares cold items for tray line, stocks dry items for tray line, and assembles cold and dry items on patient tray. Accurately checks patient tray line to ensure correct tray service, consistent with departmental standards, for all patient menus. Assists with tray line process (assembles trays, loads carts, transports carts to units, pass to patients). Toasts bread for patients and prepares and delivers coffee to physicians dining room and administration. Retrieves carts from units at designated times. Strips carts and trays, sorts and rinses dishes and silverware. Collects all plates, pots and pans and washes them per guidelines. Operates dish machine/washer as indicated by guidelines and training. Ensures detergents and additives are kept at proper levels, stocks and stores washed items, logs dish machine temperatures daily. Maintains high levels of sanitation in department. Ensures work areas are kept clean, using appropriate sanitation procedures and proper cleaning supplies. Cleans and sanitizes equipment and working tables after each use. Sweeps and mops office area as needed. Ensures merchandise is put away as needed, observing FIFO system. Ensures perishables and meat items are covered, dated, and labeled when received. Ensures refrigerators and freezer are organized and sanitary.

Minimum Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred. Minimum Experience: One (1) year dietary experience preferred. Bilingual skills preferred. Previous healthcare experience preferred. Familiar with dietary processes and techniques. Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English. Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence and memos. Ability to multitask and prioritize work. Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job Req. Certification/Licensure: Hospital Fire and Life Safety Card (Los Angeles City Employees only) required.
