Deputy Editor, Entertainment – Mashable

Mashable is hiring an experienced and enthusiastic editor to work with our teams in Los Angeles and New York.

We’re looking for a high-energy leader who is deeply obsessed with movies and television, particularly what’s happening on streaming.

This person is also a critic, and can become a leading voice on Mashable, writing regular movie reviews and thoughtful critiques.The Deputy Entertainment Editor is responsible for generating, assigning, and editing daily stories for Mashable’s website.

They will be a natural self-starter with spot-on news judgment, come up with angles that are original and grabby, and have an eye for style and voice.

They are also eager to write up a movie review, or work with the team on a “best of” list.

They’re not afraid to pursue ambitious stories or pitch an angle best described as delightfully weird.Our dream editor will be comfortable working closely with writers of varying levels of experience to ensure quality and originality.

They will themselves be an excellent writer who leads by example and is passionate about storytelling.The Deputy Entertainment Editor will report to the Entertainment Editor, who is based in NY, and will ideally be able to work west coast hours.You, our ideal candidate, are…* A detail-oriented editor who can generate compelling story ideas, work with copy, and understands the magic of a good headline.* An organized professional who can coordinate with other editors, verticals, and departments, and values the success of Mashable’s wider team.* A dynamic thinker, a natural problem-solver, and a driver of growth.* An experienced journalist who can verify facts, shape intriguing narratives, and help reporters find trustworthy sources.* A top-notch writer with a firm grasp of AP style and the ability to quickly turn around clean copy.* Well-versed in SEO and a variety of social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, and TikTok.* A confident and energetic leader who understands the topical landscape inside and out, and isn’t afraid to have some fun with stories.The Day to Day* Assign stories to Mashable writers.* Edit stories from writers in multiple cities.* Write weekly movie reviews* Collaborate with the Entertainment Editor on daily entertainment coverage.* Help track product releases and review coverage.* Promote Mashable content on Twitter and Facebook.* Assist in planning editorial series, strategic foundational content, theme weeks, and longform features.Qualifications* Based in Los Angeles or able to work west coast hours* Minimum 5 years editing experience at a media publication* Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment* Strong communication skills* A critical eye for strong editing* Detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable managing sensitive topic areas* A self-starter as well as a team player (a sense of humor is a must!)* Knowledge of the digital space and Mashable’s core coverage areasAbout MashableMashable is passionate about the people, products, and innovations that shape our connected lives.
