Summary of Essential Job Duties: The Cytogenetic Technologist in the Cytogenetics laboratory is a position performing cytogenetic techniques including short- and long-term tissue culture, slide preparation and staining. Microscopy and automated karyotyping, being able to produce accurate karyotypes and analysis in a timely manner with knowledge of ISCN 2020 nomenclature. Responsibilities include performing routine and technically complex laboratory tests and analyses requiring well developed cognitive, manipulative, and problem-solving skills. Education Requirements: Baccalaureate degree in a Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or related science. License/Certification Requirements: Valid California Laboratory Scientist license or limited license appropriate for the area of responsibility. Current National Certification Agency (NCA) certification in Cytogenetics (CLSp(CG). Experience Requirements: Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a full-service Cytogenetics laboratory. Experience in FISH and molecular techniques preferred.
