Under limited supervision, the Estimating Engineer prepares in house Customer job estimates by performing or analyzing field site surveys, proposals and requirements. Compiles estimates by collecting and studying previous performances of similar tasks, along with review of customer/industry standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Receive customer inquiries/opportunities and review specifications for accuracy and against customer/industry standards in order to build step-by-step procedures and material lists to prepare in house estimates for customers.
• Extensive knowledgeable in the operation of Outside Plant, Central Office, Transport and Cable Headends, all to Telecordia or TP Standards.
• Extensive knowledge of DC Power, Batteries, Site Builds, Racking, and Network Equipment.
• Identify new opportunities in the field.
• Keep current with new technology and industry trends.
• Receive customer inquiries and review specifications for accuracy and requirements to prepare estimates.
• Interface with Project Management and Purchasing for current costs to keep database current.
• Analyze blueprints, construction drawings and other documentation to prepare time, materials, and labor estimates.
• Confer with engineers, owners, contractors and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
• Prepare estimates used by management for purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work.
• Conduct special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or to effect cost reduction.
• Review material and labor requirements to decide whether it is more cost-effective to construct or sub-contract components.
• Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors in company database.
Job Requirements:
Heavy experience in the telephone equipment system environment and/or cable industry including engineering and installation of Ironwork, Strong Engineering Skills, Site Conditioning, DC Power, Batteries, Common Systems, Transport/Facilities, Digital Switch and all phases of complex AC wiring with emphasis on safety and quality.
• Minimum of 7 years related experience in Central Office installation environment, minimum 5 years related experience in DC Power installation, including Power Plant and 12V and 2V batteries.
• Common Telecom Manufacturer equipment certifications.
