Copy Writer

Our client is hiring for a Copywriter to join their music platform team. This role needs some based out of Seattle, WA or Los Angeles, CA who has the capability to come into the office if needed. This is a contract opportunity starting for 10 months. Music lovers are welcomed to apply!

Description:

In this role, you will work cross-functionally with a talented team of marketing designers, marketing managers, channel experts and product managers to help shape the overall fan experience and invite more fans to experience our product across a wide range of marketing channels. You will develop global copy based on messaging frameworks and direct response best practices that drive clarity for our customers and consistency in tone of voice. Your rock-solid presentation skills and enthusiasm will sell ideas through the lens of strategy and creativity while you use data and customer insights to drive the best results and continually improve the fan experience. The key job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

• Bring the brand to life through succinct and scalable copywriting based on global style guides and direct response best practices

• Develop copy to support major business initiatives, seasonal promotions, new product launches and more

• Collaborate closely with the Growth Marketing team and our Brand Designers on creative production and testing for on- and off-platform channels

• Make informed copy decisions based on not just your own expertise, but on market/competitor research, best practices and internal data

• Be ready to nimbly pivot copy strategy for ever-evolving projects, audiences or channels

• Present and lead conversations about copy strategy to leadership and stakeholders

DAY-TO-DAY ACTIVITIES

• Write copy for growth marketing channels including our owned & operated placements, emails, landing pages, paid social and display, push notifications, promotions, in-product placements and more.

• Balance tone of voice/brand expression with best practices for acquisition and engagement copy, learnings from testing and legal requirements.

• Become a true partner to the Growth Marketing team, acting as their POC for copy testing variations, how and where we express our brand, and defining value propositions for product offerings.

Typical Day in the Role:

Interaction with team/Day to Day:

  • Work with the team to evaluate requests that come through and assign them to the right writer on the team
  • They will actually be executing on many of those requests
  • It could be writing copy for placement on Gateway, promoting an artist, writing copy for an email newsletter that goes to our subscribers, or email promotion that goes to non-subscribers
  • Mostly working on our owned and operated channels
  • Copy writing for those placements

REQUIRED SKILLS

• 3-4 years of experience as a Growth Marketing Writer or similar role in an agency or in-house setting writing acquisition copy spanning multiple channels, use cases and geographies

• Worked on the client side of copy writing, someone who doesn’t only have agency experience but also client-side experience

• Independent, self-starting worker

• writing for direct response placements, writing for things that have acquisition or engagement goals tied to them

• 3-4 years of relevant experience

• Bachelor’s degree required

• Must be proficient in English with exceptional US-based grammar and copywriting skills

• Must be passionate about audio content, specifically music and podcasts, and able to write and speak like a fan

• A web-based portfolio of relevant work samples

• Experience executing on copy systems, guides and frameworks

• Exceptional communication, collaboration and presentation skills

• Have strong bias for action in a fast-paced, metric-driven environment

• Self-motivated team player, with refined and assertive leadership skills

• Curiosity to dig several layers deep into success metrics, have an innate desire to understand key drivers

• Experience evangelizing copy guidelines and tone of voice

• Experience with testing copy variations and implementing learnings

• An effective multi-tasker who can balance competing priorities with efficiency

PREFERRED SKILLS

• Experience Writing specifically for placements where we do a lot of our marketing, display banners, email, voice

• Experience working with remote teams and an international audience

• Experience writing for voice interactions and voice assistants

• The ability to influence others to set and achieve goals and deadline
