What you’ll do here: As a Content Engineer you will develop and lead multi-functional projects that define, create, document and implement content, metadata and vocabulary standards in Cengage Learning digital products, content management systems, and content and metadata production environments.

Coordinate communication, troubleshooting and problem solving, involving others as needed.

Assume overall project responsibility for ensuring that delivered content and metadata meets product feature requirements, collaborating with Product Management and Cengage Technology resources as needed.

Maintain overall responsibility for coordinating the definition and implementation of Content Engineering best practices and standards for one or more of the following core fields: workflows and dataflows for specific content types; controlled vocabulary and subject indexing implementation; project management tools and practices; publication metadata implementation; citation implementation; standards management and maintenance.

A Content Engineering candidate must have: Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Library/Information Science, Computer Science or Data Science.

Minimum five years of progressively responsible experience in managing and delivering formally structured content and/or metadata.

Advanced knowledge of information retrieval concepts and practices, and database and document management concepts and techniques.

Training in, or management of, SGML/XML and/or relational databases in the capacity of a Content Engineer, Business Analyst, Systems Analyst, Data or Enterprise Architect role Experience with XML schema development, schema validation and/or a solid understanding of proper XML syntax Experience managing increasingly larger and more complex product development or software development projects using formal project management techniques and methods Demonstrated ability to design and implement structured analysis of complex issues and create flowcharts, process models or other formal models of workflows and dataflows.

Excellent facilitation, problem-solving, organizational and planning skills.

Ability to zero in on the critical few and put the trivial many aside.

Proven leadership ability, and ability to build alignment across functional areas and within multi-functional project teams.

Training or experience in software development lifecycle and business process definition concepts and practices.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical staff and vendors.

Basic understanding of programming languages such as Python, PERL, XSLT, XQuery, or Java Experience working with JIRA or a comparable bug tracking tool.

Experience with Agile development processes and recurring release cycles.

The ideal candidate would also have: Master’s degree in Library/Information Science, Computer Science or Data Science Experience implementing content metadata and vocabulary standards.
