Components Engineer

Responsibilities

As a  Components Engineer within the Engineering and Assurance Office, you will be the Subject Matter Expert (SME) responsible for the following:

  • Evaluate project space flight electronic parts requirements and develop a plan jointly with the design teams internal and external in fulfilling these requirements
  • Identify part availability by searching existing inventory of electronics parts, and initiate procurement cycle for parts shortage
  • Ensure parts meet the technical screening requirements as defined by the program requirements or Radiation Specialist
  • Perform Electronic Parts Reliability and Radiation Effects Testing, Analysis and Research
  • Track and maintain project parts lists, procurement/kitting status in the Parts Acquisition and Review Database
  • Disposition Quality Inspection Reports
  • Evaluate discrepancies (failure, anomaly, test deviation, etc.) to determine the necessary steps to close out the issue
  • Report status of procurement, testing and IR closure to project/program management, along with risk analysis, as required
  • Coordinate between engineers of different and part manufacturers to resolve technical issues that impact delivery schedules
  • Representative at manufacturing meetings and provide input based on understanding of risk areas due to technical or delivery issues

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’ s degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline with typically a minimum of 7 years of related experience
  • Some knowledge in one or more of the following areas: component engineering; Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) or Material Requirements Planning (MRP) system
  • General understanding of electronic parts
  • Ability to read schematics and understand technical project component requirements
  • Familiarity with electronic components commodity types, part identification, package types, and descriptions
  • Working knowledge of part data sheets and common package types for part recommendations and selection
  • Ability to effectively interface with design engineers and parts specialists in the selection of space level electronic components
  • Excellent computer skills (use of a complex-integrated database and MS Office tools), organizational skills, documentation skills, and oral and written communication
  • Must be detail oriented
  • Experience with electronic parts identification, procurement, and delivery process
  • Experience with Internet part vendors and Defense Supply Center Columbus (DSCC) searches
  • Experience in identifying and rectifying discrepancies between part numbers provided and correct part numbers as defined in supplier and military drawings and specifications
  • Previous procurement experience and familiarity with Federal Acquisition Requirements (FAR)
  • Previous experience operating within an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) or Material Requirements Planning (MRP) system.
  • Previous experience in Oracle Inventory, Bill of Materials, and Work in Process modules
  • Proficiency in database management
