Compensation Specialist

The Opportunity

The Compensation Specialist at the Center for Employment Opportunities (CEO) is responsible for conducting market research, performing competency modeling and compensation impact analyses, and supporting managers in applying CEO’s compensation structure across our national organization. They will partner with the Compensation Team, and larger Employee Experience team, to design, assess, and implement CEO’s compensation programs nationally. They will also contribute to our efforts to consolidate and/or standardize job functions and position descriptions across the organization and provide support and guidance to our fuller Employee Experience Team.

CEO’s Staff Vaccination Policy

Who We Are

The Center for Employment Opportunities (CEO) provides employment services to people with recent criminal convictions. Across the United States, over 6,000 people participate in CEO each year, transitioning to employment that supports themselves, their families, and their communities.

What began as a demonstration project of the Vera Institute of Justice in the 1970s to address employment barriers facing the formerly incarcerated following release in New York City has grown into the leading reentry employment organization in the country, where over 25,000 formerly incarcerated individuals have secured full-time employment since 1996. In 2016, CEO embarked on a 5-year strategic plan to grow to serve 9,000 participants annually.

  • You have 4+ years of of progressively responsible experience in wage and salary administration and/or as a compensation analyst, consultant or similar role;
  • You demonstrate knowledge of basic compensation concepts, such as FLSA, market movement and compression and understanding of how these factor into analyses;
  • You have a high proficiency in applied Excel (routine / advanced formulas, pivots, dashboard creation);
  • You have the ability to perform independent research;
  • You possess knowledge of regulations, procedures and practices and federal laws associated with compensation and benefits preferred

Major Responsibilities

These responsibilities are representative, but not all-inclusive, of the responsibilities of this role:

Compensation Benchmarking and Analysis

  • Conducts job analysis which includes creating or revising job descriptions and assessing the job’s value in the marketplace.
  • Plans, designs, develops, and conducts analyses, interprets results and makes recommendations that support effective compensation and benefit programs aligned to CEO’s business strategy
  • Assists with multifactor data and cost analyses for compensation programs including salary structure modeling, merit and bonus plans; and liaises with the Finance team to ensure correct budgeting of accruals for compensation programs.
  • Conducts compensation analyses to ensure staff are equitably paid within established salary ranges and participates in benchmarking efforts to recommend fair and equitable pay levels where applicable
  • Performs ad-hoc and routine workforce analyses and analytics, in support of compensation structure, succession planning, organizational design, and other strategic HR-related projects
  • Participates in compensation surveys and provides analysis of competitive positioning

Compensation Administration

  • Administers compensation and benefits in accordance with established policies
  • Contributes to the development of base salary, bonus and equity programs
  • Contributes to the development of compensation policies and practices
  • Assists with the annual compensation planning process
  • Assists with auditing compensation data in HRIS system
  • Assists with the administration of annual merit increase process
  • Provides analyses, including financial impact analyses, to ensure the Company’s pay practices comply with changing laws and regulations such as FLSA, minimum wage,paid sick leave, and collective bargaining agreements

Job and Salary Architecture

  • Participates in the analysis of the current title structure to identify opportunities for standardization of job functions, families and titles with appropriate job leveling/job title glossary
  • Develops and/or revises job-specific position descriptions to ensure alignment with system-wide functions, strategic goals and initiatives, industry standards, regulatory requirements and related mandates.
  • Writes, edits and proofreads draft position descriptions, making useful recommendations and raising potential issues with work tasks, requirements or structure of descriptions.

Team and Organizational Support

  • Prepares documentation, reports, and communications related to classification, compensation, or related matters for system-wide distribution
  • Works on Employee Experience special projects
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $64,000-$79,000/annually CEO’s compensation philosophy considers a variety of factors including experience, internal equity, and the labor market associated with the city in which the position is located. This position can be located in any of the cities in which CEO operates. The labor markets associated with the cities in which CEO is based are variable, and the salary range included here reflects this. Our salary offer will fall within this range and will be reflective of the labor market of the city in which the position is based, as well the other factors named above.
