Community Engagement Specialist

SUMMARY

The Community Engagement Specialist is a highly motivated and dynamic individual who will be responsible for managing, developing, and implementing the community outreach for Safe Parking LA to be able to educate communities on issues surrounding vehicular homelessness and garner community activism and volunteerism. This individual will build relationships with stakeholders and develop programs and overall initiatives to promote and enhance community involvement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

* Plan, develop, and execute community outreach events that build relationships with community stakeholders, non-profit organizations, and community members in Los Angeles County.
* Manage community engagement educational programs surrounding homelessness to facilitate educational events using tactics that include:

* Education through email and virtual outreach and social media
* In-person education through meetings and conferences in person and virtually
* Coordinating community meetings/dinners in person or virtual
* Coordinating community volunteerism and donation opportunities like food, clothing, and hygiene kit drives

* Supervise volunteer as needed.
* Assist in development of marketing campaigns surrounding events in order to drive community involvement and awareness
* Monitor and track impact of events to community and stakeholders including number of associated events hosted, attendees, and contributions made and disbursed.
. Requirements:
* One (1) or more years of experience working in community outreach and/or government relation preferred
* Bachelor’s degree preferred
* Exceptional oral and written communication skills with a strong orientation towards relationships building and serving others
* Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels both internally and externally
* Must have reliable transportation
* Strong project management, organizational and time management skills
* Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-disciplinary teams
* Background check (Live Scan) necessary and required by funders or regulatory agency
* Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook) is strongly preferred
* Ability to work nights, weekends and potentially holidays

Hourly Rate: $18.00

Benefits include paid holidays and vacation, a 403(b) plan (with employer match after two years), medical, dental, vision, flex spending.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
