BRRWSCTY (pronounced Borrow Society) is an online, peer-to-peer, luxury marketplace renting currently-owned wardrobes. We’re airbnb for wardrobes. Our mission is to reduce the harmful impacts of fashion on the earth by creating a global, sustainable marketplace allowing people to monetize their wardrobes and experience luxury affordably. We are creating a new culture of consumption centered around investing in high-quality, long lasting pieces. We are a pre-seed startup launching in Los Angeles, California in Summer 2022. 

THE POSITION

Title: Chief Technology Officer

Reports to: Marissa Braun, Founder & CEO

Location: Open. Los Angeles preferred.

Preferred Start Date: Late Summer / Early Fall 2022

Position Summary: We are seeking a full-time Chief Technology Officer to serve as a key member of the leadership team responsible for building the web application and handling all technical needs, and, as additional hires are made, building and managing the technical team. 

This leader will serve as an influential and inspiring executive, who will transform technical outcomes and the company’s culture by acting as a strong, strategic partner and thought leader to the CEO and COO.

This person will be responsible for all things related to the technical product and will set the tone for technical excellence. 

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES & OUTCOMES

  • Design the application foundations around the company vision and customer needs
  • Architect the tech-stack, data modeling, and infrastructure
  • Build using the language and frameworks of your choosing
  • Secure the app and infrastructure with industry standard practices
  • Deploy to the hosting solution of your choosing
  • Maintain and refine with a tight feedback loop between the team and customers
  • Optimize and Scale to support high usage growth rates
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize application performance
  • Hire, develop, and retain top talent with the capabilities to inspire and motivate a team
  • Participate in approved industry-related events and/or associations that will enhance leadership skills, the organization’s reputation, and organization’s potential for success 
  • Build a results-driven culture of accountability and transparency
  • Have strong strategic acumen and the intellect to contribute to the long-term vision of the company; the aspiration and aptitude to grow and expand scope of responsibility as the CTO

PIVOTAL EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE 

  • Engineering background as a leader for building complex marketplaces or comparable apps from scratch or having had meaningful contribution to or been an integral part of the development process
  • Technical experience working at a branded tech company
  • Successful track record of leading and managing a team within a well-regarded and branded technology company
  • Impeccable organizational skills with a demonstrated track record of installing discipline, process and methodology into a company
  • Reputation for technical capabilities, discipline and integrity
  • High EQ leader with a low-ego and collaborative leadership style
  • Demonstrated value creator who understands innovative and entrepreneurial growth
  • Ability to thrive in ambiguity 
  • Experience as a product management leader with a reputation for innovation and customer-first mindset

COMPENSATION & LIFESTYLE NOTES

  • $90,000 annual salary
  • Equity compensation based on experience
  • One mental health day per month
