This role is part of a special group assigned specifically to our large hospital client and performing the same duties in an acute care setting. We are seeking PART TIME/ON-CALL candidates. Benefits Excellent Clinical Care Training Receive Acute Care Hospital Experience Clinical orientation to include: training on hospital code assignments as well as violence prevention Compensation is dependent on experience Job Summary The CNA assists with activities of daily living (ADL’s), provides basic nursing care, performs services requiring technical and manual skills on individual patient needs within the Certified Nursing Assistant’s scope of practice, and assists in maintenance of a safe and clean environment under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse in charge of the team and/or nursing unit. This position will be primarily working with an acutely ill adult through geriatric patient population in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional and/or developmental age of the individual served. Specific areas of responsibility include baths, toileting, nutritional support/assistance, rounding, monitoring of patient vital signs/pain, ambulating/transferring, assisting with procedures, and observing/reporting patient behaviors. The CNA also assures that the rights of the patient/family are respected and maintained. S/he demonstrates the ability to safely and competently use equipment in the provision of department services per scope of practice. Demonstrate a high Level of Commitment to providing direct and indirect patient care to the above identified population, as assigned in the acute care setting. Major Responsibilities Provides basic nursing care to patients within the Certified Nursing Assistant’s scope of practice, including actions that meet their psychosocial, age specific and physical needs. Performs general direct and/or assistive care activities according to hospital policy e.g. personal hygiene, oral care, Foley care, etc. Demonstrates ability to assist with feeding patients and maintaining fluid balance with technique appropriate for patient’s age and physical condition. Demonstrates knowledge of basic disease entities. Demonstrates an ability to assist physicians/RN/LVN with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills under the direction of an RN. Measures vital signs, height, weight, intake, and output accurately and reports all findings to nursing personnel. Documents all vital signs in the appropriate place during and at the end of each shift. Responds to patients’ needs, in a timely manner, within CNA scope of practice. Maintains Unit/Department supplies – linens, CS stock, forms/documents…etc. Assists patients in dressing and undressing, in transportation of patient’s to other departments, and in tasks to promote patient comfort and adequate nutrition. Always escorting/ensuring that a discharge patient is safely out of the facility door. Reports conditions and equipment that are unsafe and initiates means to ensure a safe environment. Demonstrates safe use of supportive equipment of the med/surg, telemetry, orthopedic and bariatric patient including but not limited to walkers, CPM’s, wheelchairs and bariatric beds. Reports malfunctioning equipment which could compromise patient safety to charge RN. Accurately uses all equipment as delegated by nursing staff. Utilizes protective devices (restraints, side rails), as appropriate, for patient safety. Follows standard precautions policy and procedures. Demonstrates knowledge of Code announcements (Code Blue, Code Red, Code Gray, Code Silver, etc), as stated in the Safety Manual. Demonstrates safe use of the supportive equipment. Respects the Rapid Response Process and work to proactively identify classic signs that precede codes. Assists in crisis situations – performs CPR, assists in restraining violent patients, etc. Required Qualifications Minimum of 1 year Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Patient Care Tech (PCT) experience working in any of the following patient care settings: acute care hospital, skilled nursing facility, sub-acute facility, long term acute care hospital, acute rehabilitation facility, or convalescent facility. Able to perform routine patient-care activities; have physical strength to assist patients in ambulating, turning in bed, and transferring in and out of bed or wheelchair. Good communication skills.
