Cashier

Position Summary:

To operate a cash register and checkstand to provide customers with the most accurate and efficient checkout service possible; to perform some stocking and other duties, as assigned, depending upon the amount of time available, business volume, and other criteria according to established company policy.

Duties and Responsibilities
Observe all company policies and procedures.
Maintain a neat, well-groomed personal appearance at all times and adhere to dress code regulations;
Name badges

Solid black slacks / no jeans
Solid black, rubber-soled, polishable shoes
Be knowledgeable in and able to recognize or differentiate between all of the various types of produce merchandise including differences between varieties of similar classes of produce (ie., apples and lettuces) and departmental product differences (ie., Service Deli vs. Deli Dairy an Grocery vs. International Grocery);
Assist courtesy clerks in bagging merchandise according to company policy;
Greet all customers and provide them with prompt courteous assistance;
Comply with all safety policies and procedures;
Handle damaged or spoiled products and go-backs.
Perform other duties and assignments as directed.
Memorize produce item codes for faster service.

Bookkeeping

Record all time worked through the use of the time clock;
Count cash drawer at the start and end of actual shift;
Record all purchases into cash register in accordance with company cash handling procedures;
Collect payment from customers and tender accurate change in accordance with company policy;
Process all of the various types of payment accepted by the store including but not limited to cash, checks, EFT transactions, WIC vouchers, food stamps, manufacturers coupons, gift certificates, etc, according to company policies and procedures;
Verify all customer IDs presented and observe company policies pertaining to the acceptance of checks and the sale of alcoholic beverages and tobacco;
Use correct pricing and PLU (price look up) codes to ensure that all merchandise is properly accounted for;
Record on designated forms any price discrepancies and/or not on file items according to company policy.

Maintenance-

Maintain a clean and neat checkstand at all times; no eating/drinking is permitted in the checkstand;
Maintain general housekeeping and sanitation standards in compliance with company policy and state and local health regulations on a regular, ongoing basis;
Use and maintain equipment in good working order and report any problems or malfunctions immediately to your supervisor.
Be able to tolerate moderate amounts of dust and chemical fumes from common household cleaning agents such as ammonia during routine housekeeping duties.

Work Environment

The work environment includes occasional exposure to refrigerated frozen food storage areas with temperatures as low as 20 degrees (Fahrenheit) below zero;
On occasions access to break rooms, offices and all employee restrooms requires ascending/descending a flight of stairs.
Typically, the noise level in the work environment is moderate.

Security
Adhere to company policy pertaining to excessive cash in registers and request cash pickups according to company procedures;
Observe security standards by being aware of customer actions and behavior; report any abnormal behavior to immediate supervisor;
Secure register at all times when leaving it unattended; protect company assets at all times.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and use both hands to handled objects, tools or controls;
Frequently walk, talk, or hear, and reach with the hands and arms; occasionally crouch or kneel;
Be able to lift or exert up to 15 lbs frequently and occasionally lift or exert up to 30 lbs;
Be able to sweep and mop floors, dust and face shelves;
Have sufficient physical mobility or agility to be able to respond quickly to fire or other emergencies.
Have sufficient memory retention skills to memorize PLU +codes.
