Career Counselor
This full-time, temporary position provides an excellent opportunity to work with an experienced staff that values the use of technology to deliver career and professional development services to students and graduates. The candidate selected for the position will guide students in developing and implementing individualized career plans by counseling, conducting mock interviews, and reviewing application materials.Position Responsibilities:* Counsel students and graduates on job search.* Assist with recruitment programs, including the Fall On-Campus Interview (OCI) Program.* Provide detailed feedback on student and graduate resumes and cover letters.* Gather information and provide support for the production of informational and statistical employment reports and surveys produced by the department.* Serves as a resource person to graduating students and new alumni for online job search databases and websites.* Perform other related duties as assigned or requested. The Law School reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.Experience/Qualifications:* Minimum of 2 years of direct experience in legal recruiting, career services, attorney professional development, or another closely related role preferred.* Demonstrated knowledge of basic career counseling techniques and approaches. Familiarity with legal hiring processes, including legal application materials and interviewing, and the current job market.* Excellent customer service skills required. Provide concise and clear communications, reports, letters, etc. Ability to remain calm and professional when faced with a challenging/sensitive situation and respond with tact and diplomacy. Strong public speaking, writing, and group facilitation skills. Capacity to build relationships with diverse constituencies. Highly developed sense of empathy, humor, patience, and resilience.* Maintain a high level of confidentiality and discretion. Possess highly developed organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills to successfully manage a large volume of diverse tasks/projects. Manage multiple tasks simultaneously, often with conflicting or moving deadlines.* Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and implement projects to meet established deadlines and goals. Attention to detail and accuracy are essential in composing and proofreading materials and reports. Take initiative to be resourceful in work processes.* Must be able to work independently while exercising good judgement and decision making.* Demonstrated computer competency and preferably knowledgeable of relevant systems, including Zoom and Microsoft Teams. Strong preference will be given to applicants with direct experience using Symplicity.Education:* Typically a J.D. or an advanced degree in counseling or education (student services).Substantial direct experience may substitute for advanced degrees.* Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes.Staff Temporary (Fixed Term)
