CAM/ Data Entry

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Performs design and drafting functions utilizing CAD-CAM equipment to prepare engineering documents of product designs working from customer drawings which facilitates the cutting function to create customer parts.

•Prepares cutting programs for CNC cutting machines from customer drawings and design specifications using CAD-CAM systems
•Works from detailed drawings, rough sketches, notes or other conceptual information to prepare programs for production
•Visually reviews blueprints and drafts to ensure they conform to cutting parameters, proper dimensions and tolerances as set forth in established guidelines
•Checks work orders & checks cutting programs for accuracy and changes information that has been miscalculated or missed; Downloads cutting programs to specified cutting machines
•Performs modifications to computer drawings based on customer or in-house requests (i.e.

model changes, specifications, changes to compensate for bending, beveling, machining, welding, cutting, etc.)
•Reviews drawings to create nest on CAM System for production of parts in order to maximize plate usage
•Provides templates for beveling, bending, and/or machining, jigs for welding
•Maintains all files, logs and records as required
•Maintains good housekeeping standards in assigned area
•Uses Microsoft Office to create reports frequently
•Understands Production due dates, Schedules programs made in the correct priority to be cut.RequirementsJOB KNOWLEDGE:
•Thorough knowledge of the use and operational procedures for CAD-CAM systems.

•Thorough knowledge of manufacturing products, design requirements and terminology.

•Must be able to read and interpret engineering related documents, blue prints and other data.

•Knowledge of G-Codes and M-Codes for cutting programs.

•Requires advanced math skills including trigonometry, geometry and complex calculations including fractions, percentages and ratios.

•Above average proficiency with Microsoft Excel in order to run reports as needed.COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES:
•Must be able to interact with coworkers and manufacturing personnel and exchange information with tact, courtesy and professionalism
•Ability to work independently and with discretion when working with confidential and sensitive information
•Must be able to maintain records, files and logs and prepare reports
•Ability to pay close attention to detail for extended periods of time with visual acuity and manual dexterity.

Physical efforts require sitting, mobility, reaching, bending, and the ability to talk and hear.

•A high degree of accuracy is required.

Must be able to multitask and pay close attention to detail for long periods of time while maintaining a high degree of accuracy.

•Must have the ability to edit and proof one’s own work in order to detect errors, and make sound judgments on corrective actions when necessary in order to reduce any negative impacts including but not limited to material loss, poor product quality, loss of revenue, production delays, costs associated with rework, etc.
•Must be able to follow established procedures and parameters of job duties with latitude given for achieving established goals.

•Must be able to work independently and with confidence when scheduling programs on correct cutting machines and in the correct order based on production due dates.

Must be able to problem solve, be creative and resourceful throughout the course of duties and when making decisions or establishing schedules.

•Maintain good judgment and initiative in work duties in order to maintain accuracy and work efficiency.SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
•Works under specific direction of the plant manager where definite objectives or goals are established.

•Plans and arranges own work and coordinates work with others, referring unusual cases to supervisor as necessary.CONTACT WITH OTHERS:
•Interacts frequently with coworkers and other members of management and staff.

•Works in a normal steel fabrication environment with intermittent contact with machine noise and factory working conditions.

Office is an open environment with frequent interruptions.

•Required to wear safety equipment including: hard hat, ear, eye, and foot protection.
•High School diploma or GED or equivalent combination of education and experience would be necessary
•Additional training in CAD-CAM operating systems
•Prior work experience in gas or laser cutting would give the necessary background for the position.
