Calportland: Ready Mix Batch Plant Operator

Job SummaryThe Ready-Mix Batch Plant Operator is responsible for safely operating and performing all service maintenance of a Ready-Mix Plant, including all paperwork and reporting, ordering materials, maintaining the site, as well as, being responsible for CalPortland SLAM and Safety programs.

Maintenance and housekeeping will be required to protect and prolong the life of our assets and prevent outages causing potential problems for customers.ResponsibilitiesCarry out and record pre-start-up checks, ensuring all guards are in place and that the plant is safe to operate before commencing the shiftOn the computer, perform data entry of materials received and keep all records associated with the function, including printing delivery ticketsBatch quality concrete within specifications, bringing any significant variances in the batching and general performance of the plant, to the Plant Superintendent’s immediate attentionReview and monitor all plant stock levels on a regular basis, communicating continuously with the Dispatch and Plant Manager about requirements for the following dayIssue instructions and regularly necessary communication to the ready-mix driversComplete daily plant checklist with preventive maintenance measures.

Notify Plant Superintendent of any breakdowns, mechanical issues or any other required repairs as soon as they occurTrack and record over and under material usage and provide reports to General ManagerRe-mix and/or redirect concrete as necessary per CalPortland proceduresObserve and follow Health, Environmental and Safety rules and Policies always, ensuring all plant personnel do the sameProvide training as needed to substitute batch personnel at the direction of the Plant SuperintendentEducationHigh school diploma/GEDRequirements/QualificationsMinimum 3 years of work experience as a Ready-Mix Concrete Batch Plant Operator in a computerized plantAbility to trouble shoot, repair and maintain the equipment in support of CalPortland’s preventative maintenance environmentVersed in batching systems, able to diagnose issues and set-up mix design, and load sequencing for the plant into batch panel for maximum efficiencyMust be knowledgeable in the operation of ready-mix plants, materials used and various other types of equipment common to the ready-mix industry, as well as forklifts and front end loadersMust have mechanical skills and the ability to problem solve equipment problemsKnowledge of CalPortland, MSHA and OSHA rules and trainingKnowledge of pH, TSS, TDS and Turbidity limits to meet Department of Ecology standardsKnowledge in processed water treatment systemsAbility to work safelyProficient in computer skills in the Microsoft Office Suite such as Excel and WordReading and writing skills requiredMust be able to work cooperatively with others and build teamwork at the plantOver-time and night work may be requiredMust provide own tools for routine maintenance, installation and repair workPhysical requirements: ability to lift 75 pounds, climb, bend, squat, stretch, drive, twist, and push/pull controlsAbility to work in and tolerate extreme weather conditionsPreferred:Fully trained in Ready Mix Operation and Plant Maintenance programs a plusWelding experienceCompensationBenefitsAt CalPortland, we’re proud to offer a comprehensive, competitive benefits package that provides health and financial support to our most important resources: our employees.
